Kensington Palace Releases Striking Portrait of Duchess Sophie Standing Alone
A few weeks ago, Duchess Sophie made headlines after stepping up to represent her brother-in-law, King Charles, at the Sovereign's Parade in Camberley, England. Not only did she channel Kate Middleton's style with her blue ensemble, but she also helped make history with Sandhurst's first-ever all-female Banner Party. Now, the duchess is marking a more somber occasion, and photographers captured a few stand-out pics of the royal. Kensington Palace took to Instagram to share photos of her recent visit to Westminster Abbey, where she attended the Australian War Memorial at Hyde Park and the Anzac Day service of commemoration and thanksgiving. Duchess Sophie stepped out in a dark suede coat dress and a chic black fedora, donning three poppy pins to commemorate those who died in military service. And guys, I can't get over the first slide, which is a striking portrait of the royal standing alone in her fedora. In the close-up, Sophie looks straight ahead with a neutral expression, and the blurred background draws more attention to the duchess, who is in perfect focus. The caption reads, "We remember all the Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in conflicts around the world, on this 110th anniversary of Anzac Day. This morning, the Duchess of Edinburgh attended a Dawn Service at Hyde Park Corner in London to mark the anniversary and commemorate the Fallen." Samir Hussein/WireImage The following slides include shots of the Duchess laying a wreath and paying her respects during the Anzac Day Dawn Service. One fan commented, "The Duchess of Edinburgh is grace personified. Lest we forget." Another wrote, "Thank you for remembering the sacrifice of our Aussie and NZ forebears." In addition to the IG post, King Charles shared a heartfelt tribute to veterans and even included his personal signature, "Charles R." Instagram/@theroyalfamily On his IG Story, the statement read, "I wanted to pay a special tribute to Australian and New Zealand veterans, and those who are on active service today. Through generations, you have continued to enact the indomitable spirit of Anzac—forged in terrible conflict and preserved in peace—of courage, mateship and sacrifice." Duchess Sophie Just Helped Make History at Royal Event with Major Connection to Nephews William and Harry
It's not every day that history is made—or that you get a front-row seat to witness it. But for Duchess Sophie, last Friday, April 11 delivered both. The Duchess of Edinburgh stepped in for King Charles at the Sovereign's Parade at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and her appearance marked a pretty major milestone. The Sovereign's Parade is a prestigious event that celebrates the completion of 44 weeks of intensive training for cadets in the British Army. This term, 239 Officer Cadets from Commissioning Course 242 officially became commissioned officers—including 26 international cadets representing 18 different countries. Sophie's visit marks the third time she's attended the parade, with previous appearances in 2013 and 2019. But this time, she was front and center not just as a royal representative, but at a truly historic moment for the academy. This parade featured Sandhurst's first-ever all-female Banner Party—a big deal in the long-standing tradition of British military pageantry. The group included Company Sergeant Major Brunton of the Royal Army Medical Service, who carried the Sovereign's Banner, along with Staff Sergeant Lewis from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, and Staff Sergeant Bradley (also RAMS), who was given special permission to carry a bayonet. To make the moment even more meaningful, Sandhurst has strong ties to the royal family—both Prince William and Prince Harry trained at the academy before beginning their military service. Sophie's attendance came as King Charles wrapped up a four-day state visit to Italy with Queen Camilla. The trip included a stop at the Colosseum, a meeting with the Pope and their 20th wedding anniversary happened to fall right in the middle. Buckingham Palace even released a sweet highlight reel from their travels, complete with touching moments with fans and a stunning mosaic portrait of the couple. Talk about a busy—and historic—week for the royals. Want all the latest entertainment news sent right to your inbox? Click here.
