Southampton forward Rianna Dean has announced the news that she is leaving the club this summer. The player took to her personal X account to announce her St Mary's exit earlier today. 'I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone at the club – the staff, my teammates and the incredible fans – for welcoming me so warmly and for supporting me through every high and low. 'It's been a privilege to wear the shirt and represent this club. I've learnt a lot, shared some memorable moments and I'll always be grateful for my time here. Crystal Palace part ways with manager Smerud following relegation

Crystal Palace have announced the news that they have parted company with manager Leif Smerud following the club's relegation to the Barclays Women's Championship. The Eagles issued a club statement confirming Smerud's departure via a post on their official club website this morning. Advertisement The 48-year-old was appointed Crystal Palace manager back in early March, just hours after the club dismissed former boss Laura Kaminski. Smerud was tasked with keeping Crystal Palace in the Barclays Women's Super League but he was unable to achieve that goal. The Eagles were relegated with two games left to play. Crystal Palace's return to the Barclays Women's Championship was confirmed in the worst possible fashion as they crashed to a 7-1 defeat to West Ham United at the VBS Community Stadium last month. The South Londoners must now regroup and rebuild following their relegation and it has been confirmed that Smerud will not be the person to lead the club in the second tier. Announcing Smerud's departure, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said 'Leif joined us during a challenging period, and we are grateful for his contribution and the professionalism he has shown during his time at the club. 'We wish him every success in the future.' Crystal Palace will now begin their search for a new head coach to lead the team next season.

Birmingham City forward Smith announces departure

Birmingham City forward Libby Smith will be leaving the club this summer. The 24-year-old took to her personal social media accounts to confirm her departure earlier today. Smith joined Birmingham City from Leicester City in summer 2021. The player represented the Blues for one season in the Barclays Women's Super League before helping the club compete at the top end of the Barclays Women's Championship in the last three years. Smith has made 79 appearances for Birmingham City in total in which she has scored 11 goals. Advertisement Announcing her Birmingham City departure, Smith said 'After four years as a Blue, my time at the club has come to an end. 'Firstly, I'm gutted that we couldn't get over the line on Sunday. Birmingham gave me my WSL debut, so after relegation, I felt it was my personal mission to get the club back to where it belongs, falling short of that hurts. 'I'd like to say thank you to the fans who have continually supported me during my time here, you've been with us through it all and it definitely hasn't always been pretty. I've worked with some real good people and made friends for life and for that, I will always be grateful. You've made the highs feel even more special and the lows a little less painful. 'I'm excited and motivated for what my next chapter will bring but for now, it's goodbye.' Advertisement Smith is the first player to be leaving Birmingham City during the close season.

Sheffield United relegated to FAWNL after defeat to Southampton

Sheffield United have been relegated to the FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division following this afternoon's results in the Barclays Women's Championship. The Blades knew that they had to equal or better Portsmouth's result to take their survival bid down to the final day. Sheffield United lost 3-2 to Southampton at Bramall Lane while Portsmouth recorded an emphatic 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Fratton Park. Advertisement Sheffield United ended the afternoon on seven points, five points adrift of safety and their seven-year stay in the Barclays Women's Championship will therefore come to an end following next weekend's trip to Sunderland. It has been a tough season for The Blades. The club appointed Ash Thompson as their head coach last summer and he was tasked with building a new squad from scratch. The team's only league victory came in the form of a 2-1 success at Blackburn Rovers back in October. Since recording that win, Sheffield United have gone 12 league matches without a victory. For long spells, it had looked like newly-promoted Portsmouth would be the ones to drop out of the second tier but their much-improved form in the final weeks of the season, combined with Sheffield United's winless run, has resulted in The Blades falling through the trapdoor.
