Baseball, Hot Dogs, And A Genesis GV80: How To Road Trip In Arizona

Genesis GV80 Kristin Shaw If you're a baseball fan but have never stepped foot in a major league baseball spring training facility, start making plans for next season. There's something special and magical about the spring training games, and you can find them in the Phoenix, Arizona area as well as several cities across Florida. One thing you're going to need, in either region, is a car to get from stadium to stadium. This year, I piloted a Genesis GV80 for spring break, and it got me and my family to the games in style and plush comfort. Several years ago, my family and I explored the Grapefruit League and attended eight games in six different ballparks over 13 days. It was quite the baseball gauntlet, especially since the games in Florida are spread out across the state. In Arizona, the ballparks are all roughly within an hour of each other. That makes it a lot easier to see more fields and more teams. My favorite home base is the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, located northeast of Phoenix in the posh Scottsdale neighborhood. Sloan Park, home of the Cubs, is only 20 minutes away and even the furthest fields are a pleasant ride from the Princess. This year, my family and I stayed in a Privado suite, one of the well-appointed villas that has its own valet and check-in station. The Privado section looks over one of the meticulously-kept golf courses on the property, framed by gorgeous flowers and rock gardens. It was an easy walk to the resort's eateries from our villa. I highly recommend La Hacienda for excellent margaritas and tableside guacamole; if you do, do not miss the spectacular flaming coffee for dessert, which combines tequila, coffee, cream, and cinnamon with a show of fire. The Genesis GV80 is a great match at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, holding its own next to alternative luxury rides driven by other guests. I even spotted a 90s-era Ferrari a visitor had purchased just weeks before (likely at the annual Barrett-Jackson auction nearby). Car and Driver rates the Genesis GV80 a 10 out of 10, and for good reason. The brand is part of the massive Hyundai Motor Group as the luxury arm of this growing company. Kia is also under the HMG umbrella, cranking out hit after hit like the Telluride and Sorento. Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia have launched creative and beautiful concept cars in past years, with no signs of slowing down. I'm particularly excited about the X convertible concept unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show two years ago. Psst, Genesis, let's see this one in production! Equipped with two engine options--a 300-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder and or a 375-hp twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6--the Genesis GV80 offers excellent handling around town and on the highway. While the V6 is markedly more thrilling during acceleration, fuel economy takes a hit from 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway with the inline-four to 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with the larger engine. The Genesis GV80 SUV is road-trip ready. Kristin Shaw Inside the GV80, ambient lighting accentuates wood and metal trim for an elegant feel. A 27-inch display wraps across the dashboard, and the map graphics are crisp and clear. The wireless smartphone charger worked well as long as no other items were placed on top of phone (like earbuds or keys). At nearly 35 cubic feet behind the second row, there was more than enough space for our luggage for a weekend trip; we could have doubled our luggage allotment easily. I found the upscale Bang & Olufsen audio system to be immersive, with high-quality sound. Need a road trip tune suggestion? Try 'Panama' by Van Halen or for something newer, go with 'Stargazing' by Myles Smith. Last, but certainly not least, one of my favorite features of the Genesis GV80 is its extensive warranty: 10 years for the powertrain, a 5-year limited warranty, and 3 years of complimentary maintenance. All in all, excellent value starting at around $60,000 for the base model.

Shelby Vs. Regular Mustang: The Key Differences Explained

Very few driving experiences can match the thunderous roar and the raw power of a Shelby Mustang. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of its true American automotive icon this year, Shelby American debuted a revived GT350 at January's Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. A new Shelby Mustang is also the perfect opportunity to highlight how different Shelby's creations are from Ford's standard Mustang. We obviously have to start with Carroll Shelby. The Texan was an accomplished sports car driver during the 1950s. Shelby was named Driver of the Year by Sports Illustrated twice in 1956 and 1957. The highlight of his racing career would come in 1959 when he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans behind the wheel of an Aston Martin DBR1 alongside British driver Roy Salvadori. Shelby's racing career would come to an abrupt end in 1960 after he was diagnosed with angina pectoris, a hereditary condition caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. While no longer able to race, he didn't want to leave the automotive world. Shelby realized there was an opportunity for an American sports car manufacturer to emerge during his time winning races with European machinery. As a result, he founded Shelby American in 1962. Read more: The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Is Exactly What You Want It To Be The fledgling company found competitive success with the Cobra and Ford approached Shelby to build a high-performance version of the Mustang. Management at the Blue Oval intended to boost the pony car's racing pedigree and its sales by tying its image to Shelby, but the Texan took the task seriously. The Mustang's 289 cubic-inch V8 engine was fitted with a larger Holley carburetor, Tri-Y headers, and a high-rise intake manifold. The modifications increased the engine's output to 306 horsepower, 35 horsepower more than stock. The Shelby Mustang wasn't intended to be a drag-strip car. The car also featured larger brakes and an improved suspension for better handling around race tracks. In the 2000s, Ford used the Shelby name on its own factory-modified performance Mustangs like the GT500 and GT350, but Ford no longer licenses the name for itself, so the moniker is back to only being used by the Shelby American company. The 2025 Shelby Mustang GT350 fits the same mold for performance. This time around, Shelby is bolting a supercharger to Ford's stock 480-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, surging the motor's output up to 810 horsepower. Buyers willing to shell out even more can get a track-focused Mustang as the partnership originally envisioned. The GT350R features a carbon-fiber interior, a half cage, four-point racing harnesses and carbon aero appendages. Performance does come with a price. If you want to feel like a modern-day Steve McQueen, the GT350 will start at $109,995. You'll have to place your order directly with Shelby American, as Ford doesn't sell Shelbys through its dealers anymore. Read the original article on Jalopnik.

4 Collector Cars That Millionaires Buy as Investments

Record-breaking, multimillion-dollar auctions at Barrett-Jackson and Sotheby's dominate the headlines in the collector car world — but what makes and models do millionaires invest in as portfolio hedges instead of as hobbies or trophies? While the monied class is notoriously vigilant about financial privacy, data from Hagerty sheds light on the subject. Read More: For You: 5 Subtly Genius Moves All Wealthy People Make With Their Money The collector car services company — which provides niche-specific auto insurance and runs a collector vehicle marketplace and auction house — publishes an annual Bull Market List of the rare and coveted cars appreciating the fastest as high-end buyers spur demand. Hagerty's ratings include factors like import/export numbers, public auction data, owner demographics and price guide research. A look at the data from the last two years reveals which collector cars millionaires are buying as investments instead of status symbols. Some of the most iconic cars on the Hagerty list are comparatively affordable. For example, the 2025 ranking shows investors scooping up 1981-83 DeLorean DMC-12s — but they're paying an average of just $34,500 for a time machine in fair condition. That's $463 more than the $34,037 the average sneaker aficionado pays for reproductions of Michael J. Fox/Marty McFly's self-lacing Nike Mags from 'Back to the Future Part II.' On the other hand, Jaguar E-Types from the early '60s are available only to the wealthy — and the wealthy are snapping them up. Those on the pricier half of the value spectrum go for $182,800 to $262,000. Trending Now: Also on the 2025 list of this year's hottest cars are Lambo Gallardos from the decade starting in 2003. Millionaires are paying $157,700 to $206,400 for those on the better half of the value scale — and 84% of interest in the rear-engine V-10 supercar comes from Gen X buyers or younger. Only 14,000 were ever made, but since other Lamborghinis are appreciating faster, the Gallardo is a relative bargain for younger auto investors whose deep pockets might be shallower than their baby boomer parents. In 1974, Lamborghini unveiled the Countach, which would go on to define '80s flash and achieve popular culture superstar status — it remains the most iconic supercar ever built. In 1989, the celebrated Italian nameplate released what Hagerty argues was history's finest Countach to celebrate the founding of Automobili Lamborghini in 1963. In 2024, wealthy investors made the 1989 Lamborghini Countach Anniversary the hottest collector car on the Hagerty roundup. Although only around 650 examples were ever produced, that's still a lot by Lambo standards. Those on the better half of the value spectrum — many of which roared with upgraded V-12s — went for between $612,500 and $770,000 when wealthy investors forced their rapid appreciation last year, making models like the Gallardo more attainable in 2025. However, you can spend much more on remarkably pristine or famous examples. For instance, in 2024, Sotheby's announced that the 1989 Anniversary V-12 Lamborghini seen in 2013's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' fetched $1.66 million at auction. Investors from Gen X and younger generations also bought the lion's share of the 2014 Ferrari FFs that earned the model a spot on the 2024 Hagerty list — but for different reasons than the Lamborghini Gallardo. Younger sets saw the Gallardo as a bargain when models like the Countach Anniversary started appreciating too quickly, but they flocked to the FF because it has room for car seats in the back. Unlike their wealthier baby boomer parents, millionaire Gen Xers, millennials and even some Gen Zers are investing in Ferrari FFs because they're among the most utilitarian ultra-luxury vehicles money can buy — but buying does require a lot of money. The Ferrari FFs on the more desirable half of the value range go for $143,000 to $177,000.
