Did 'The Simpsons' kill off Marge Simpson?
Doh! "The Simpsons" killed off mom Marge Simpson. Well, kind of. On the legendary sitcom's epic Season 36 finale episode, titled "Estranger Things" (episode 18), the storyline centered around a sibling rift between Bart and Lisa. "Your father and I won't be around forever. When you get older, you'll need to lean on each other. Whatever you do, don't drift apart, you share a journey with your siblings that no one else will ever understand," Marge said in a foreshadowing scene. "You must never, ever, ever take that for granted." Then, naturally, the pair drifted apart. Years later, Lisa found success in business as a professional basketball league commissioner while "Bart remained Bart." In the future, after Marge dies before husband Homer, the siblings actually do become estranged before reuniting. In the episode, after the siblings reunited, Marge appears during a scene where she is in heaven and reunites with her first love, Ringo Starr, suggesting that the family matriarch died. Then, the episode ends. Writers on "The Simpsons" love to find new ways to keep the show fresh. In September, the hit animated series aired its "final episode," but in actuality, it was a meta-way to start the Season 36 premiere. Is 'The Simpsons' ending? Why the show aired its 'series finale' Sunday Titled "Bart's Birthday" and presented as a "Fox special presentation," the episode kicked off with animated celebrities shown rolling into the "Dolby-Mucinex Theater" for the occasion, hosted by Conan O'Brien. "It's such an honor to be with you all for the series finale of 'The Simpsons,'" O'Brien says to the onlooking crowd, flanked with animated versions of stars who have appeared on the series, including Seth Rogen and Mr. T. "I knew I was the right man for the job because I've hosted the last episode of three of my own shows, and counting." Contributing: Taijuan Moorman; Charles Curtis, For The Win

Outrage as major Simpsons character ‘killed off'
Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. Fans of The Simpsons are up in arms over the shock death of one of the long-running series' main characters. In the final episode of season 36 of the cartoon, which was titled 'Estranger Things', the fate of the titular family's matriarch, Marge, is revealed. While focusing on Bart and Lisa's relationship, it skips forward 35 years into the future, where Lisa finds a letter and will from her mother to be opened upon her death. Lisa and Bart found a letter from their mother, who it's confirmed has passed. In it, Marge urges her two children, now in their 40s and having grown apart, to try and repair their relationship. She's later seen watching her family from heaven, before walking off camera with The Beatles' Ringo Starr. The stunning revelation indicates that Marge is set to die around the time she turns 70, although it's not revealed how. Naturally, fans could not believe their eyes. 'Yo, they killed Marge off The Simpsons!?!?!?! WHAT?!?!,' another wrote. Another added: 'Dude, they freaking killed Marge Simpson.' It's certainly not the first time The Simpsons has floored its fans. In the season 36 premiere, which aired late last year, former Simpsons writer Conan O'Brien shockingly announced that it was actually the series finale. Marge is seen with Ringo Starr up in the clouds. 'It's such an honour to be with you all for the series finale of The Simpsons,' a cartoon version of O'Brien, speaking from what looks to be a glamorous gala. 'I knew I was the right man for the job because I've hosted the last episode of three of my own shows, and counting. 'Well, it's true. Fox has decided to end The Simpsons. This show was such a special part of my early career, so being here means the world to me. Also. I left a sweater in the writer's room in 1993 and this is the only way they'll let me get it back.' The episode, titled 'Bart's Birthday', then went on to portray the 'ultimate series finale', generated by AI, featuring Principal Skinner retiring, Mr Burns dying, and an homage to The Sopranos. However, it's since emerged the show isn't going anywhere. It was recently renewed for four more seasons, taking it up to its 40th instalment.
