Sri Ram Sene seeks ban on SDPI, blames Kerala activists for violence in Mangaluru

Sri Ram Sene founder Pramod Mutalik has said that SDPI activists are engaged in communally violent acts and demanded a ban on the organisation. 'We have clear evidence to show that SDPI activists from Kerala are responsible for communal violence in Mangaluru and other places. They need to be arrested. SDPI should be banned, like the PFI,' he said. He was speaking to reporters here on Sunday. He said that caste-based discrimination is deep-rooted and is nearly impossible to eliminate. 'Basavanna fought all his life to eradicate the caste system and establish a new social order. But we have confined him to a caste and we take pride in following the caste system. We are also limiting B.R. Ambedkar to a particular caste. This is deplorable. We should forget all our caste distinctions and announce that we are proud Hindus,' he said. He urged the people not to donate to maths and other Hindu religious institutions. 'They are all well developed. They do not need your support. It is Hindu activists like us who need your support. Most of our resources are spent in fighting cases,' he said. He said that the Love Jihad prevention helpline has received over 5,000 calls in one year. 'We have resolved over 90% of the cases and provided solace to girls. Our activists trace address and phone numbers of Muslim boys who lure girls. They find the girls, convince them of the conspiracy and succeed in reuniting them with their parents,' he said. 'We are not opposed to genuine love. But we will not tolerate fake love and attempts to convert innocent Hindu girls to Islam with false promises,' he said. He said that he is confident that the evil practice of Love Jihad will end soon and the helpline will be closed. Sri Ram Sene South India coordinator Sundaresh Naregal said that the helpline is facing several challenges like logistics, funding and legal problems. All those who claim to be Hindutva leaders do not send their children for protests and agitations. Ordinary activists like us are left to fend for ourselves. Helpline coordinator Basavaraj Goudar said that Sri Ram Sene activists face several problems in battling Love Jihad incidents. Police do not cooperate at all times. Several times, the girls are brainwashed. However, 'we have succeeded in battling all such problems,' he said.

Priyank Kharge expresses gratitude to Kalaburagi citizens for supporting him against BJP attacks

In a press statement issued on Saturday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge thanked citizens of Kalaburagi and supporters across the region for standing in solidarity with him in the wake of personal attacks by BJP leaders. Responding to the derogatory remarks recently made by Leader of Opposition int he Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and others, Mr. Priyank said that the people of Kalaburagi had given a fitting and dignified reply through their massive mobilisation and intellectual resistance. 'The conscious citizens of Kalaburagi, deeply rooted in the philosophy of Basavanna and B.R. Ambedkar have once again reaffirmed their belief in democracy and the Constitution,' Mr. Priyank stated, adding that their overwhelming support had not only strengthened his resolve but also silenced those resorting to personal and ideological attacks. Reflecting on the historical and intellectual legacy of Kalyana Karnataka, Mr. Priyank remarked that the region had been a cradle of progressive thought since the days of the Vachana movement, and would never allow the 'regressive and polluted ideology' of the RSS and the BJP to take root. 'The BJP's attempt to undermine me through personal slander reflects its inability to counter me politically, ideologically, or intellectually. They have launched these attacks because I have fearlessly exposed their failures and corruption,' he said. 'I am not alone. With me are thousands who follow the path of Ambedkar and Basavanna. This spiritual and ideological army gives me the strength and confidence to continue the fight against injustice,' Mr. Priyank said. Reaffirming his commitment to the marginalised, the Minister pledged to carry forward his mission to uplift the underprivileged and continue his efforts to dismantle social inequality. 'Basavanna gives me ideological strength, Babasaheb provides moral strength, and your support gives me the soul force I need. Together, we will confront and defeat the dangerous rise of communal and casteist forces,' he concluded.

‘Basavanna's Vachanas relevant as we're still experiencing 12th Century social evils'

Lokayukta B.S. Patil released 'My Me Is Thee' , a book on Basavanna's Vachanas translated into English by police officer Basavaraj Yeligar, in Bengaluru on Monday. Mr. Patil said that Basavanna sacrificed everything to reform society that had several evil practices and discrimination based on gender, class and caste. 'All his life, he worked hard to create a new social order,' he said. However, 'we are still experiencing some of the social conditions that were prevalent in the 12th century. Basavanna and his ideologies are still relevant.' He was speaking at an event organised in the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan there. Mr. Yeligar, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Vijayapura, said his parents introduced him to Vachanas in his childhood and that he was drawn to the underlying philosophy as he grew older. 'As a student of literature, I realised that some translations existed. But I felt the need for another translation,' he said. He said that he planned to translate Vachanas of Akkamahadevi, Allama Prabhu and Chennabasavanna in the coming days. Film-maker T.S. Nagabharana praised the collective efforts of the Sharanas and said that Basavanna succeeded in organising saints and reformers from various social backgrounds. Translations will help spread Basavanna's thoughts around the world, he added. Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha president Shankar Bidri said that the Australia Basava Samiti is engaged in arranging English-translated Vachanas. Kannada Sahitya Parishad secretary Padmini Nagaraj, thinker Jambunath Malimath, Florida VV Theology Department professor Ben Gill and others spoke. Anubhava Mantapa will be inaugurated next year, says CM Siddaramaiah

MYSURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said that the Anubhava Mantapa, being constructed at a cost of over Rs 600 crore in Basavakalyan of Bidar district, will be completed and inaugurated next year. He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Basava Jayanti 2025: Our Steps Towards Anubhava Mantapa' programme organised by the Basava Balagala Okoota and the All India Veerashaiva-Lingayat Mahasabha in Mysuru. 'Work is ongoing and will be completed next year,' the CM assured the gathering. The CM said that it was his government that constituted a committee headed by writer Go Ru Channabasappa to prepare the project report for the project. Siddaramaiah said that Basavanna was not only a revolutionary social reformer but also a globally recognised economist. 'His teachings of Kayaka (dignity of labour) and Dasoha (equitable distribution) aimed at socio-economic equality. The revolution he led against the caste system is unmatched anywhere in the world,' Siddaramaiah added. He emphasised that Basavanna envisioned a casteless, secular, and humane society. 'Vachana and Dasa literature are landmarks in Kannada literature, making knowledge accessible to those previously denied education,' the CM said.
