Driver who crashed speeding in Nottingham bus lane is jailed

Driver who crashed speeding in bus lane is jailed 8 minutes ago Share Save Isaac Ashe BBC News, Nottingham Share Save Nottinghamshire Police Sunil Singh ploughed into another vehicle in his "high-powered" Audi An Audi driver who caused a head-on collision after speeding down a Nottingham bus lane in the snow has been jailed. Sunil Singh drove his car over the 30mph limit into a bus lane in Nottingham Road, Basford, to overtake a queue of traffic in March 2023. He ploughed into a car as it turned right into Chelmsford Road, causing both people inside to suffer serious injuries, before his Audi careered into a shop nearby. At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, Singh, 30, was jailed for three-and-a-half years and banned from driving on his release. The court heard Singh hit a Fiat, causing it to spin violently backwards down the road on the afternoon of 8 March. His victims, a couple in their 50s, sustained injuries, including a broken rib, a fracture to the upper arm and a broken ankle. Nottinghamshire Police said significant damage was also caused to the shop building. Nottinghamshire Police Police said Singh was "fortunate not to have killed somebody" At the time of the crash, Singh was on bail for another driving offence in November 2019, when he collided with another car near Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre. In his interview Singh, of Beauvale Road, The Meadows, Nottingham, denied driving dangerously and blamed his victims in a prepared statement. But in April this year, he pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He admitted careless driving in relation to the 2019 incident, and to possessing a Class C drug after he was found with nitrous oxide canisters in April 2024. PC Emily Mitchell said Singh was "fortunate not to have killed somebody". She said: "I shudder to think of the consequences had children been in the back of that car, or if a biker or cyclist was turning right at that point instead."
