County caseworker accused in ex-girlfriend's fatal stabbing allegedly threatened to kill her two months earlier, police reports show

A county caseworker accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death and severely wounding two of her sons in February had been placed on desk duty at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center after he allegedly threatened to kill the same woman two months earlier, police records show. Cook County prosecutors have charged Marcus Bausley, 40, with stabbing Teone Jones, 33, to death on Feb. 20 while they were at home in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Bausley is also accused of abducting and stabbing two of Jones' young sons. A 'major incident notification' from the Chicago Police Department obtained in a Freedom of Information request describes Bausley as a Cook County Sheriff's Deputy, but a roster of Cook County employees lists him as a caseworker with the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center. His employment status was first reported by ABC7, shortly after his arrest. A spokesperson for the Office of the Chief Judge, which oversees the detention center, confirmed that Bausley had been hired in August 2015 and was terminated in March 2025. But that representative could not comment on Bausley's job duties after December 2024, when he allegedly threatened to kill Jones and himself and was placed on desk duty as a result. It was one of two instances over the fall and winter of 2024 that Jones apparently felt compelled to call authorities about Bausley, although none of the alleged confrontations resulted in charges. Records state that the pair stopped living together around September 2024, though Jones' family said she had moved back in with him shortly before her death. Two other police reports, filed over the course of two days in October 2024, state that Jones was walking into a restaurant in Little Italy when Bausley allegedly began calling her over and over, claiming he could see her with another man and forcing Jones to block his phone number. She then started getting calls from a private number and via Snapchat. Jones noted she had left her car outside the restaurant, according to the report, and came out to find her rear driver side window broken with a brick in the backseat. A second report alleged that Bausley called or texted Jones about 200 times. The couple had stopped living together about a month earlier, the report stated, but were attempting to co-parent the son they shared. According to that police report, Bausley allegedly punched Jones in the face and pointed a Smith and Wesson 9-millimeter pistol at her, threatening to kill her and himself. According to the report, Jones convinced Bausley not to follow through on the threat and threw the gun out the window, later turning it in at the Grand Crossing (3rd) police district station. Police records list the two October reports as suspended and closed and state that the December report was suspended after a detective was not able to reach Jones by letter or phone. The evening of Feb. 20, Bausley allegedly texted his mother and siblings 'If something happens to me, take care of my son, please.' That night, according to a civil suit filed March 28 against Bausley by Jones' mother, Amy Green, Bausley locked the doors and boarded up the windows to the apartment located at 7144 S. Eberhart Ave. Prosecutors said he then attacked Jones with a knife in front of her two younger sons, including the 4-year-old they shared. Prosecutors allege that Bausley then took Jones' 8-year-old son to pick up her older son from basketball practice and stabbed both children. The older boy was able to get out of the car in Englewood and banged on a neighbor's door for help, prosecutors said. The younger boy, also severely wounded, remained with Bausley until he dropped him off at a gas station on 8200 block of South Damen Avenue early the next day, prosecutors said. A lawyer for Bausley could not immediately be reached. He has entered a plea of not guilty in the case, according to court records, and is being held pending trial. Green's attorney didn't immediately return a request for comment. Bausley is next set to appear in court July 30.

Man charged in stabbings that killed woman, critically hurt her 2 sons in Chicago to appear in court

The man arrested and charged in the deadly stabbing of a woman and kidnapping and stabbing of her two sons last month will make his first court appearance on Friday. Marcus Bausley, 40, was placed into custody by Chicago police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Task Force on Thursday around 11 a.m. in the 2200 block of North Main Street in Crown Point, Indiana. He was charged with one felony count of first-degree murder, two felony counts of attempted first-degree murder, two felony counts of aggravated kidnapping, two felony counts of aggravated battery to children under 13, and aggravated battery with use of a deadly weapon. What started as an Amber Alert became part of two other reported incidents leading to Bausley's arrest. The family of Teone Jones said around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, she was making dinner for her family at their home in the 7100 block of South Eberhart Avenue when sometime after, her boyfriend [Bausley], who is also the father of her 3-year-old son, stabbed her and her two oldest sons, 8 and 11, kidnapped them and left her behind. It was Bausley's mother who arrived at the home and found Jones later that night, where she was still alive. The doors and windows were nailed shut. Jones was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where she died. The alert was issued for a missing 8-year-old boy during the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 21, but was later canceled after he was found safe. The boy was seen on video entering a gas station at 79th and Damen around 4 a.m. that morning. Things took a turn after it was learned that an 11-year-old boy escaped the car the boys were kidnapped in and ran from house to house to get help in the Englewood neighborhood. Police said both the 8-year-old and the 11-year-old were taken to Comer Children's Hospital hospital in critical condition. Their conditions have since stabilized, and both have undergone multiple surgeries for serious stab wounds all over their bodies. Following a police pursuit on I-65 in Merrillville, Indiana, Bausley was arrested around 10 a.m. A plate reader alerted officers of the vehicle he was driving, a silver 2022 Ford Escape mentioned in the alert. Minutes later, it was spotted on I-65 near U.S. 30 in Merriville. The Lake County Sheriff's Department helicopter assisted in the pursuit. After being boxed in by police, officers demanded for him to exit the vehicle. He refused while putting a knife to his neck, police said. He was arrested and then taken to the hospital for evaluation for a neck wound. Bausley will appear in court Friday. The video above is from a previous report. Community rallies to end abuse cycle in Chicago after triple stabbing

CHICAGO – The man accused of a triple stabbing in Chicago that left a woman dead and two of her children injured will soon be extradited from Indiana, and the community where the stabbing happened is taking steps to stop similar cycles of abuse. 'Those children will never see their mother again, so he should never see light again,' Ald. William Hall (6th Ward) said. 'This is a chance to show us the standard of protection of women through law. If women are not protected under the law, then what good is showing up at the door?' Showing up at the door is exactly what Hall plans to do. On Monday, he hosted two community meetings in Hamilton Park, asking men to step up. Suspect accused in Chicago stabbings that killed woman, critically wounded her 2 sons awaits extradition to Illinois, faces charges 'We want men who are committed to our ward, committed to protecting women, not preying on women, not being predators, to be that example,' Hall said. Hall's Chief of Staff Valencia Ahmad and Ward Supt. Darryl Smith told WGN News this is how the cycle gets broken. 'When I was a kid, I had role models. I had people going to work. I had people really just telling me what to do, helping me be disciplined. You can't be what you can't see,' Smith said. 'That's extremely important that we get back to the basics of the roots of what Black communities and Black neighborhoods used to look like,' Ahmad added. Their push to protect women follows a harrowing story from Thursday night, when the family of 33-year-old Teone Jones said she was attacked at her home in Greater Grand Crossing by her ex-boyfriend, 39-year-old Marcus Bausley. Man in custody in connection to triple stabbing, Amber Alert on Chicago's South Side Jones' two sons, ages 11 and 8, were also stabbed multiple times, but survived. 'One is up and active. The other one still has a couple of hurdles to cross,' Hall said. Bausley then allegedly took both boys with him. The 11-year-old was found a few miles away, knocking on doors in the 200 bock of West 66th Street. 'It was very traumatic what I experienced, to see an 11-year-od boy on my doorstep bleeding. Felt like he was bleeding out, but God sustained him,' witness Cynthia Keel said during a prayer vigil for Jones. An AMBER Alert was also issued for the 8-year-old boy before he showed up on patrol station surveillance video in Auburn Gresham, about four miles from where the stabbing happened. Community leaders hold vigil for stabbing victim, urge more support for domestic violence cases Bausley was arrested Friday morning near Crown Point, Indiana, after a license plate reader detected his Ford Escape, prompting a chase by state police and the Lake County Sheriff's Department who boxed him in with their patrol vehicles. Bausley is facing a felony resisting arrest charge in Indiana. He's said to be fighting extradition to Illinois where he faces multiple charges, including Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
