'Derelict' pub care home plans approved

Plans to convert a former pub into a care home have been approved. Baycrest Care Ltd applied to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to turn The Windsor in Bridlington into a 23-bed residential facility. The building, on Windsor Crescent, has been empty since the pub and B&B closed in 2022. As well as the change of use, the application includes a new conservatory and lift for people with restricted, or no mobility. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, documents submitted to the council described the state of the building as being in a "derelict" condition, with severe damp and mould, fallen ceilings and damaged windows. The building had also become a target for vandalism, squatting and fly-tipping, councillors heard. Baycrest Care Ltd's application said there was "an acute shortage of high-quality residential care accommodation within Bridlington". The plans were approved by the authority's planning committee last Tuesday. Former pub could become a care home

Plans have been submitted to convert a former pub into a care home. Baycrest Care Ltd has applied to East Riding Council to turn The Windsor on Windsor Crescent in Bridlington into a 23-bed residential facility. The building has been empty since the pub and B&B closed in 2022 and is currently "in a poor state". The application claimed there was "an acute shortage of high-quality residential care accommodation within Bridlington". According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, documents submitted to the council describe the state of the building as being in a "derelict" condition. The former pub has severe damp and mould, fallen ceilings and damaged windows and doors. The documents added that the building has become a target for vandalism, squatting and fly-tipping. Baycrest Care Ltd said that alterations to the exterior of the building would be minimal so that it remained in keeping with the rest of the terrace row. The plans include a new conservatory and balcony on the second floor to provide outdoor space for the residents and views of the coastline. At the back of the building there are plans for a new lift shaft to provide access for those with restricted or no mobility.
