It costs $7 less to fill up gas tank in Georgia compared to a year ago, AAA says

Average gas prices in Georgia continue to shrink, with the latest price check from AAA showing prices are now at about $2.98 per gallon for regular gasoline. According to the organization, Monday's gas prices in Georgia are six cents lower than last week, but still eight cents higher than in March. Compared to 2024, gas prices per gallon are $0.45 lower, meaning 'Georgians are paying almost $7 less to fill up at the pump than a year ago' to fill up their whole tank. Georgia's not the only place where gas prices are down, with prices across the Untied States down seven cents compared to last week. 'Prices at the pump are coming down even though this is the time of year when gas prices go up. Supply and demand are the main reasons for the dip. After OPEC+ announced its increasing oil production for next month by more than 400,000 barrels a day – much more than expected – the price of crude oil has been falling. Oversupply and tepid gasoline demand are resulting in lower pump prices,' AAA, the Auto Club Group, said in a statement. The most expensive markets for gas prices in the state of Georgia Athens, Atlanta and Savannah, while the least expensive are Catoosa-Dade-Walker, Augusta-Aiken and Hinesville-Fort Stewart, the organization said. Brian Littrell tears up after son Baylee's ‘American Idol' audition

Brian Littrell's son is making his own path in the music industry and he wants it that way. Baylee Littrell, the 22-year-old son of the Backstreet Boys member, made his dad proud with his recent 'American Idol' audition. The younger Littrell was clocked early on by new judge Carrie Underwood, who said he looked familiar before the singer shared the identity of his famous father. Littrell then went on to talk about opening for the group as a child and witnessing his father's career and popularity. 'When you're a kid you're not afraid,' he said of performing as an opening act for the Backstreet Boys. 'But when you start to get a little bit older, especially a teenager, you kind of get intimidated, at least I was.' His father understands. 'Obviously growing up in the industry a lot of people would look at that as such a perk,' the elder Littrell said on the show. 'But it's not easy. I've always told everybody that he's ten times more talented than I ever was.' Baylee Littrell, who was 21 when he auditioned, played guitar and performed an original tune titled, 'Waiting On Myself to Die,' for judges Underwood, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. He told producers it was 'wanting to give up and not giving up yet.' 'Trust me I wish I wanted to do something completely different,' he said. 'But if I'm not doing music there's no way I can really exist.' The performance won raves from the judges. Underwood told Littrell, 'You're really good.' Meanwhile, his parents were waiting to congratulate him and his father got emotional as he said of his son, 'He's obviously grown up in the business and I think he's cut out for it.' Bryan asked Baylee Littrell if his father ever sang with him and upon learning that he had asked, 'Ya think he'd sing with ya?' The Backstreet Boy then performed his son's song together with him to the delight of the judges. 'I'm very happy for you and very proud of your son,' Richie told the elder Littrell. 'He's got his own lane and I think he could go a long way.' The judges then voted to send the younger Littrell through to the next round of the competition as his father said, 'I'm going to cry. I'm crying.' Season 23 of 'American Idol' airs Sunday on ABC.

‘American Idol' Nepo Contestants, From the Son of a Backstreet Boy to a Country Legend's Grandchild and More

American Idol kicked off Sunday night with its annual promise: to serve as a launching pad for aspiring young musical talent. But some contestants already have a head start with a familiar advantage: the lineage of a famous family. Season 23 rolled out its first 'nepo baby' with Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boys member Brian Littrell, who auditioned in front of judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Tone!, Dies at 64 Video Shows Kimberly Burch Jumping From '80s Cruise; Faster Pussycat Performances Canceled Onboard 'There's something about you that looks familiar,' Underwood said to the 22-year-old Georgia hopeful. Idol didn't hide Baylee's background, it leaned into it: showing footage of dad Brian introducing him onstage and performing, and a photo of Underwood with Backstreet Boys posters on her wall. Brian Littrell made the case for his son, saying that being the progeny of a famous singer isn't exactly a perk. Still, it didn't hurt his chances either, as he earned a Golden Ticket after a performance of an original song, 'Waiting on Myself to Die.' Underwood was impressed, and Bryan doubled down, inviting the elder Littrell into the audition room to duet with his son, earning praise from all three judges. Bryan commended Baylee Littrell for blazing his 'own trail.' Idol 'nepo babies' is nothing new. Over the seasons, kids coming from an entertainment family or background — be it music, acting, sports or politics — and even former American Idol contestants, have found their way to the judges' table. Just last season, Emmy Russell, granddaughter of legendary country singer Loretta Lynn, impressed the panel with her performances, including a rendition of 'Coal Miner's Daughter.' She later revealed on an episode of The Thrivalist Podcast that it wasn't her idea to sing her grandmother's country classic, but the judges'. She eventually made it to the top five before being eliminated. Season 20 proved that talent does run in the family, as two 'nepo' contestants — Ava Maybee, daughter of Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Leah Marlene, the daughter of Derry Grehan, the guitarist for Honeymoon Suite — sang their way into the top 10. Kaya Stewart, daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, competed during season 21. Actor Jim Carrey's daughter, Jane, earned a golden ticket in season 11; Aretha Franklin's granddaughter, Grace, auditioned during season 20; and Lara Johnston, daughter of Doobie Brothers lead singer Tom Johnston, also made it to Hollywood on season 10. Gianna Isabella, daughter of Brenda K. Starr, was a top contender on season 15 of Idol, as was Alex Preston, a cousin of Jo Dee Messina, who carved his own path with independent artistry on season 13. Lyric Mederios, the daughter of '80s pop star Glenn Mederios, who had hits with the songs 'Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You' and ''Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone,' auditioned for the show twice before finally making it through on season 21. From the political arena, former Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway's daughter, Claudia, auditioned in 2021, and Ayla Brown, daughter of Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), finished in the top 16 of the show's fifth season. Sports families — primarily baseball and football players' children — also gained extra yardage on Idol. Nikko Smith, son of St. Louis Cardinals player and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, had a successful run on season four competing against Underwood. While Shannon Magrane, daughter of Joe Magrane, a Cardinals pitcher, finished 11th on season 11. Meanwhile, NFL player Phillipp Sparks' daughter, Jordin Sparks, won season 6. As for former Idol contestants, children of Phil Stacey (season six), Nadia Turner (season four) and the late Nikki McKibbin (season one) also auditioned for the judges.
