South Carolina falls to #1 LSU 7-3 in final game of regular season

COLUMBIA (USC SID) – In the final game of the regular season, the University of South Carolina baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to No. 1 LSU Saturday afternoon (May 17) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park. Carolina struck first in the bottom of the second as KJ Scobey doubled to left to bring in Jase Woita. LSU answered with a run in the top of the fourth, but Beau Hollins' sixth home run of the season gave Carolina a 2-1 lead. LSU took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring on a ground ball double play and a two-run Daniel Dickinson home run. LSU scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth. Henry Kaczmar's solo home run in the eighth ended the scoring for the Gamecocks. The loss went to Dylan Eskew, who allowed four runs and six hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Parker Marlatt had three strikeouts in two innings of relief. Hollins had two hits to lead Carolina's offense. POSTGAME NOTES Scobey had four hits in the LSU series, three of which were for extra bases. Kaczmar and Woita ended SEC play with a .333 average in conference tilts. The Gamecock pitching staff had 10 strikeouts on the day. UP NEXTCarolina turns its attention to the 2025 SEC Tournament, held at the Hoover Met.
