Madonna ‘channels' late mother by recreating her hairstyle with brunette wig
Madonna has 'channelled' the memory of her late mother by wearing a wavy brunette wig to recreate her style. The 66-year-old singer born in Bay City, Michigan – shared a post on Instagram of her sporting the new hairdo after celebrating Mother's Day with five of her six children, and years after Madonna's mother died in 1963 from breast cancer at the age of 30, shortly after giving birth to her sixth child. Madonna captioned an image of her wearing the wig: 'I missed my mother so I channelled her… .' At the time of her mum's death, Madonna was five years old. Speaking about the impact of that loss in the Sky documentary 'Becoming Madonna', the seven-time Grammy winner said: 'It was just the greatest event of my life. It was like a part of my heart was ripped out.' She continued: 'I was forced to grow up fast and understand my mother's death, to understand the psychological, all things that were going on. It was too much for a child I think.' Madonna, who has 54.6 million followers on social media, wore the wig – reportedly done for her longtime hairstylist Orlando Pita – to resemble her mother's typical daily look. The performer is known for often referencing her late mother in her work, including throughout her recent 'Celebration Tour', which grossed $225.3 million across 81 dates. During her performance of the 2003 track 'Mother and Father', Madonna projected an image of her mother onto the stage. 'When I stepped out on the stage and looked up at my mother's face every night, I said, 'Hello,'' she told fans. She added: 'I said, 'Goodbye.' I said, 'Thank you. I hope you're proud of me.' I said, 'Please protect me and keep me sane.'' In an earlier Instagram post, the singer revealed her family had kept the severity of her mother's illness from her. 'Nobody told me my mother was dying,' she wrote. Madonna added: 'I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously, and then she disappeared, and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep, which explains my tumultuous relationship with sleep.' Madonna – nicknamed 'Little Nonnie' by her family – famously visited her mother's grave at Calvary Cemetery in Kawkawlin, Michigan, during the filming of Alek Keshishian's 1991 documentary 'Truth or Dare'. Her father, Silvio Ciccone, is now 93 and was married to Joan Gustafson – formerly the family's housekeeper – from 1966 until Joan's death in 2023 at age 81 from cancer. On Mother's Day, Madonna shared a photo with her children: 12-year-old twins Estere and Stella, 19-year-old Mercy, 28-year-old Lourdes Leon, and 19-year-old David Banda. Missing from the photo was her 24-year-old son Rocco Ritchie, who she had with her second ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, to whom she was married for seven years before divorcing in 2008. 'Sunshine laughter, horseback riding, soccer, and the sound of music!' Madonna wrote. She added: 'The best gift they gave me was the gift of not arguing and being loving to one another. 'When you raise children to be unique and opinionated, you also create your own debate team! 'Motherhood could never be described with a few words. Nothing can prepare you. Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there doing the heavy Lifting!'

Madonna shares heartbreaking motivation behind new makeover after going brunette
Madonna ditched her usual blonde hair for a different look in photos shared recently and the Vogue singer has opened up about the motivation behind the makeover Singer-songwriter Madonna looked different in a series of photos that she shared with fans on social media over the weekend. She has also revealed the motivation behind her recent decision to have the makeover. Madonna, 66, shared a series of selfies on her Instagram Story yesterday. She ditched her signature blonde hair in favour of going brunette in the photos. In one of the posts, she told her followers on the platform that there was a poignant reason being her sporting the new hairstyle. She revealed to her followers that the look was inspired by her late mother Madonna Fortin, who died when the Vogue singer was five. The Grammy Award winner wrote over one of the photos: "I missed my Mother so I channeled her." Following her mother's death, Madonna was raised by her father Silvio 'Tony' Ciccone, 93, and her late step-mother Joan Ciccone, who died aged 81 last year. Joan, who had briefly been a housekeeper for the family, married father-of-six Tony in 1966, three years on from his first wife's death. Madonna told Rolling Stone in 1984: "It was hard to accept her as an authority figure and also accept her as being the new number-one female in my father's life. [He] wanted us to call her Mom, not her first name. I remember it being really hard for me to get the word mother out of my mouth." As reported by Hello! magazine, Madonna reflected on losing her mother in the Sky documentary Becoming Madonna. She shared in the 2024 film, which documents her rise to fame: "It was the greatest tragedy of my life." According to the outlet, she added: "It was like a part of my heart was ripped out. I was forced to grow up fast and try to understand [what was happening]." Madonna went on to suggest that "it was just too much for a child". Speaking about her upbringing, Madonna told TIME magazine in 1985: "I was the oldest girl so I had a lot of adult responsibilities. [...] I really saw myself as the quintessential Cinderella. You know, I have this stepmother and I have all this work to do and it's awful and I never go out and I don't have pretty dresses." The recent post about missing her late mother comes a week after Madonna celebrated Mother's Day in the US with her family. Madonna, who has six children, shared at the time that she had spent the weekend with five of her kids and revealed the "best gift" that she had received for the occasion. She told fans: "I spent Mother's Day weekend with 5 of my 6 children. Sunshine laughter, horseback riding. soccer, and the sound of music! The best gift they gave me was the gift of not arguing and being loving to one another." Madonna continued: "When you raise children to be unique and opinionated, you also create your own debate team!!! Motherhood could never be described with a few words. Nothing can prepare you. Happy Mother's Day !! To All the Women out there doing the Heavy Lifting."
