Policy Kings, Salt Lake's first Black-owned brewery, is open
Salt Lake's first Black-owned brewery has opened, offering beers made in conjunction with other local brewers — and its own tasty seltzer.
Driving the news: Policy Kings opened in May in the Central 9th neighborhood after moving from Cedar City, where it was founded seven years ago.
What's on tap: While owners Deandre and Sara Ridgel continue to set up the brewery, the corner spot is serving collaboration beers brewed at Bewilder and Chappel, with taps for other local breweries and a cider from the neighboring Thieves Guild.
The house-made Beery Hard Seltzer is sweet and goes down easy.
Fun fact: Policy Kings is named for the gambling kingpins of Chicago in the early 20th century.
By the numbers: Fewer than 1% of America's craft breweries are owned by Black brewers, according to the National Black Brewers Association.
