Rachel Zegler ‘unhireable' as ‘Evita' box office struggles: Source

Welcome to 'The Scoop' — the ultimate back-to-the-office water cooler cheat sheet, your go-to source for all things everyone really wants to know! Get the latest on everything from the political swamp maneuvering in D.C. and Hollywood drama to jaw-dropping small-town shenanigans from Paula Froelich. (NewsNation) — Pity poor Rachel Zegler. The young actress, who many blame for the bombing of Disney's live-action 'Snow White' at the box office, sought solace on the stage. 'Hee Haw' actor, singer dead at 78 Zegler, who is considered 'untouchable' in Hollywood at the moment, signed on to play the title role of 'Evita' at London's famed Palladium… but it seems there aren't many takers for the tickets. According to London Theatre Direct, which sells theater tickets, there are still tickets available for all shows — and there are many of them. Only a handful of shows are considered to be semi-full. As I reported recently: '(Zegler) is too dangerous to touch,' my spy said. 'She doesn't know when to shut up. After this and what happened to 'Emilia Perez,' studios are going to be a lot more careful hiring lead actresses.' Zegler put herself in an awkward position after being awarded the role by criticizing the beloved original. As she told 'Extra' in 2022, the animated film was 'extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman's fit for in the world… The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so. There's a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn't do that this time… We have a different approach to what I'm sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie.' Other comments Zegler has made that offended some Disney fans and conservatives include: Skewering people who were upset by her casting and calling them 'losers obsessed with maintaining the bloodline purity of cartoon princesses.' Zegler claimed her version of 'Snow White' is 'really not about the love story at all,' a change she deems 'wonderful.' Instead, it's about Snow White's 'inner journey' to 'find her true self.' After Donald Trump's reelection, Zegler posted in part on Instagram: 'May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.' She apologized for her remarks two days later. While there were other issues with 'Snow White' (troublesome CGI dwarves, as opposed to casting real people), the son of 'Snow White' producer Marc Platt personally blamed Zegler for the underperformance of Disney's remake of the 1937 classic at the box office. Lana Del Rey says she kissed Morgan Wallen and it 'went to his head' Jonah Platt, who hosts the podcast 'Being Jewish,' criticized Zegler for 'dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie.' In a since-deleted post, Jonah Platt responded to an Instagram comment that reported Marc Platt's visit to 'reprimand' Zegler, according to Variety. Jonah said Marc Platt's attempt to get Zegler to delete her post was made at Disney's request. 'Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,' Jonah Platt wrote, per Variety. 'This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film's box office.' Kid Rock: I call Trump 'dragon slayer' for taking out 'woke DEI stuff' He added: 'Free speech does not mean you're allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions. Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.' As my source notes, '(Zegler) is unhireable right now. She should start applying to college.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. ‘Snow White' producer's son blames Rachel Zegler for box office flop

(NewsNation) — The son of 'Snow White' producer Marc Platt is blaming star Rachel Zegler for the underperformance of Disney's remake of the 1937 classic at the box office. Jonah Platt, who hosts the podcast 'Being Jewish,' criticized Zegler for 'dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie.' In August 2024, Marc Platt traveled to New York City to ask Zegler to remove a 'Free Palestine' comment she made on X while thanking fans for watching the film's trailer, Variety reported. After Zegler posted a message aimed at Trump supporters, Marc Platt met with her again, prompting Disney to hire a social media manager to oversee Zegler's online presence. A commenter on social media criticized Marc Platt's intervention, calling it 'creepy' and 'uncalled for.' In a since-deleted post, Jonah Platt responded to an Instagram comment that reported Marc Platt's visit to 'reprimand' Zegler, according to Variety. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.' Jonah Platt, who has been outspoken against antisemitism, has previously condemned Kanye West, particularly after the rapper used swastikas in his public displays, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Studio estimates have the remake, released on March 21, opening with $43 million in ticket sales. It has extremely low ratings, initially receiving a 2.2/10 on IMDb and 43% on Rotten Tomatoes. Beyond its unsuccessful revenue, NewsNation entertainment expert Paula Froelich reported there's immense tension between the movie's two co-stars, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who is Israeli. Yolanda Saldívar, killer of Tejano music icon Selena, denied parole Zegler is one of the most polarizing celebrities in Hollywood. She has been vocal about her political beliefs and has condemned the original 'Snow White.' Following President Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 election, she posted on Instagram: 'May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.' NewsNation has learned Zegler is 'too dangerous to touch,' according to a Hollywood insider, and has zero projects in the works besides heading up the West End production of 'Evita' at the Palladium in London. Snow White star's woke politics caused film flop, claims producer's son

The star of Disney's Snow White remake has been accused of causing the film's poor box office performance with her 'personal politics'. Jonah Platt, the son of Marc Platt who produced Snow White, claimed that Rachel Zegler's political social media posts 'clearly hurt the film's box office' after its unsuccessful opening weekend. In a since-deleted Instagram comment, the 36-year-old actor and podcaster wrote that Zegler 'hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires', adding that 'narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged'. Zegler, 23, caused controversy when she shared the trailer for the studio's live-action remake on X last summer with the comment: 'And always remember, free Palestine.' Platt, the host of the Being Jewish podcast, confirmed that his father flew 'across the country' to 'reprimand' Zegler after the post caused a 'severe rift' with Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen. The two lead actresses clashed over their opposing views on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, with Gadot, who served in the Israeli Defence Forces for two years, supportive of her home country following the Hamas Oct 7 attacks, according to reports. Zegler also came under fire for her criticism of Donald Trump's re-election last year. She wrote on social media: 'May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.' The actress, who later apologised for her comments after intervention from her studio and agent, had said that Mr Trump's return to the White House was an indication of a 'deep sickness in this country'. Platt defended his father for flying from New York to Los Angeles to 'reprimand' Zegler for her political interventions in response to a comment on his Instagram that it was 'creepy as hell'. Hitting back with his own comment, available to his 167,000 followers before it was deleted, Platt wrote: 'You really want to do this? 'Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to [sic] fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for.' He continued: 'This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film's box office. Free speech does not mean you're allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.' The actor, best known for his two-episode role in Netflix's Uncoupled, added: 'Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation... at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful.' His comments come as Snow White is on course to become Disney's worst-performing live-action remake, with the studio now facing an uphill battle to make a profit on a film that cost upwards of £207 million to make. Other marketing issues It has been plagued by marketing problems since the onset, including controversy over Zegler's casting as a 'woke' choice for the Disney princess, criticism of the CGI depiction of the seven dwarves and the attempted feminist and 'politically correct' spin on the role by the lead actress. Issues with the PR campaign became so severe that Disney took the unusual step of scaling back its world premiere in Hollywood earlier this month by curtailing red carpet interviews and not inviting external media outlets to speak to stars. Speaking after the scaled-back premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, the producer said Disney's job 'is to delight' as he expressed hope that 'all the noise' surrounding the remake would fade away once people watched it. He said: 'I'm hopeful that once audiences actually experience the film, all the noise around it will fade away and people will discover a family entertainment that is joyful, aspirational and delightful.' Since its release, however, Snow White has had a critical reception from reviewers.
