MANHATTAN, Kansas (FOX 44) — Baylor knew what was at stake against on Monday night in Manhattan, a win would keep the bears in control of their own destiny for the Big 12 championship. The Bears took care of business with a clutch 79-62 victory over the Wildcats. Baylor overcame their third straight game without Darianna Littlepage-Buggs and Bella Fontleroy leaving the with a shoulder injury early in the second half. With a short-handed team someone had to step up and Aarronette Vonleh responded with her best game of the season, racking up 24 points and 12 rebounds. Kansas State has cemented itself as one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country but Baylor it down for the most part, allowing just two triples. Aliyah Matharu and Yaya Felder both contributed 15 points and Sarah Andrews added 12 of her own to keep the Wildcats at bay. Now, the stage is set for the regular season finale on Sunday, March 2nd with Baylor squaring off with No. 11 TCU with the winner claiming the Big 12 regular season crown. WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — Baylor kept its spot at the top of the Big 12 standings with a convincing 67-52 victory over Iowa State. The Bears defeat the Cyclones after losing the previous four matchups. Stingy defense was the catalyst for the Bears the entire game, forcing 21 turnovers, leading to 26 points on the other end. Bella Fontleroy led the way with five steals. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs missed her second consecutive game with a knee injury but the supporting cast stepped up. Four players finished in double-figures, led by Yaya Felder with 15. Fontleroy stepped up in Littlepage-Buggs' absence, driving the basket and crashing the boards. Baylor has two games remaining, first, the team hits the road to take on Kansas State on Monday night and then it finishes the season at home against TCU. WACO, Texas (FOX 44) — The Bears remained tied for first place in the Big 12 Conference, taking down No. 18 West Virginia, 75-65 for Baylor Women's Basketball second AP-Top 25 win of the season on Tuesday night. The Bears came out with a balanced attack early, led by Bella Fontleroy and Sarah Andrews each burying three triples in the first half and combining for 20 of Baylor's 36 first half points to take a 10-point lead into the break. Baylor held J.J. Quinerly at bay in the first half, with the star guard for West Virginia only scoring two points on 1-7 shooting but the Bears couldn't contain her the whole game. Quinerly led a West Virginia charge in the second half, dropping 18 points before fouling out late in the game. The confidence never wavered for Nicki Collen's squad, carrying over the first half momentum into a blistering 57 percent shooting from the field in the second! Aaronette Vonleh heated up in the final two frames, scoring 15 of her team-high 21 points. Four of the five Bears starters finished in double figures with Darianna Littlepage-Buggs missing out on her 11th double-double of the season with nine points and 13 rebounds. The Bears only added five total bench points all game. Baylor led by double figures for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter until West Virginia scored six straight to get within 70-61 with 3:31 left. Jada Walker answered at the other end with a three-point play and she scored again with 2:18 left for a 75-61 lead. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs had nine points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, and Sarah Andrews had 12 points and seven assists for Baylor (21-5, 11-2 Big 12). Walker scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half. Jordan Harrison led West Virginia (19-5, 9-4) with 20 points. JJ Quinerly, averaging 19 points per game, added 17 points. Andrews made a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left in the first half to give Baylor a 36-26 lead. The Bears' largest lead of the game came on a basket by Vonleh with 4:47 left in the third quarter to make it 50-34. Baylor is off to its best start to conference play in the Nicki Collen era. The Bears play at Texas Tech on Saturday.
