Former MSU football linebacker returns from major injury for the Philadelphia Eagles

Former MSU football linebacker returns from major injury for the Philadelphia Eagles Ben VanSumeren made waves in his collegiate career transferring from Michigan to Michigan State, and although his collegiate career did not go as expected, VanSumeren has still found himself playing at the next level. After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, VanSumeren was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he has spent the first two years of his career. In those two years he has played in 20 games, making two starts, and recording 16 tackles. Midway through the 2024 year, VanSumeren was making the transition from defense to offense, lining up as a fullback in Nick Sirianni's offense. Unfortunately, a torn ACL in November took away the rest of VanSumeren's season, and he was forced to watch the Eagles win the Super Bowl from the sidelines. Now, after a long road of recovering, VanSumeren is back and is gearing up for his full-time return to the field in 2025, participating in the team's offseason training activities. Look for the former Spartan to do big things in his return on the offensive side of the field in his professional career. Former Spartan resigns with defending Super Bowl champs

Former Spartan resigns with defending Super Bowl champs Former Spartan Ben VanSumeren has reportedly resigned with the Philadelphia Eagles LB and FB Ben VanSumeren will remain with the #Eagles with a one-year deal done by @ihcsports. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 12, 2025 A former Spartan has resigned with the defending Super Bowl champions. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that former Michigan State linebacker Ben VanSumeren has signed a one year deal to remain with the Philadelphia Eagles next season. VanSumeren will serve as a fullback for the Eagles, according to the transaction sheet. VanSumeren switched from linebacker to fullback last season, and had some success in his new role with the Eagles before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He missed the Eagles' run to the Super Bowl because of that injury. VanSumeren played three seasons for rival Michigan before transferring to Michigan State ahead of the 2021 season. He wrapped up his career playing two seasons for the Spartans, where he played 24 games. Ben VanSumeren's younger brother Alex VanSumeren is a defensive lineman on the Spartans' roster currently. He is expected to play a bigger role on next year's team. Former MSU linebacker wins Super Bowl ring with the Eagles

Former MSU linebacker wins Super Bowl ring with the Eagles Former Michigan State football linebacker Ben VanSumeren is officially a champion. On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, cementing VanSumeren's status as a Super Bowl champion and earning him his first Super Bowl ring. VanSumeren's journey to the NFL was not guaranteed, and it's definitely unorthodox. VanSumeren transferred to MSU after starting his career at the University of Michigan. After struggling to get major playing time in his first few seasons, VanSumeren finally became a big part of the defense in 2022 where he recorded 81 tackles and two sacks. Despite having another season of eligibility, VanSumeren made the surprising move to declare for the NFL draft. During the draft process, VanSumeren flashed some truly impressive physical attributes, which led to him being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Eagles. In 2024, VanSumeren started to see some action as a full member of the Eagles 53-man roster, playing on defense, special teams, and occasionally at fullback, the position he was originally set to play out of high school. In November of 2024, VanSumeren suffered a knee injury which took him out for the season, but he will still get a ring for his part in the Eagles' Super Bowl winning season.
