Ben Zobrist happy to be part of Sunday Morning League Hall of Fame
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — He's won two World Series titles and helping break a 108-year championship drought. But Ben Zobrist says he's humbled when he thinks about going into the Peoria Sunday Morning League Hall of Fame. At 110-years old, the PSML is the oldest amateur baseball league in the country. 'It's pretty special to know this league sets itself apart from a lot of other leagues because of how long it's been running,' Zobrist said. The Sunday Morning League inducted 11 new members to its Hall of Fame on Friday night. Zobrist, who was the World Series MVP when he helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series, was the guest speaker for the banquet. Zobrist grew up in Eureka and played parts of two seasons in the PSML when he was a collegiate player at Olivet Nazarene University. At the time, he admits he didn't realize the history of the league. 'I actually stepped foot in this (league) before I understood the magnitude of that history,' Zobrist said. Peoria Sunday League marks 110 years with a special banquet
EAST PEORIA, Ill (WMBD) — The Peoria Sunday Morning League is the oldest amateur baseball league in America, and it's celebrating its 110th season this year. The League will host a special banquet on June 6 to celebrate this historic season at the Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino in East Peoria. At the banquet, they'll also be honoring their 2025 Hall of Fame Class, which includes the 2016 World Series MVP and Sunday Morning League alum Ben Zobrist, who will be the Keynote Speaker for the event. The league was formed in 1916 for area businesses which wanted to provide a bit more for their employees. Fast forward all those years later and it's become the premier collegiate league within the area. Tim Cundiff, the former League president, says celebrations will take place throughout the year. 'It's going to be a great celebration of Chicago Cubs fans, Peoria baseball fans, and the Sunday Morning League,' said current League president Zach Skulte.
