Mission: Impossible stars share sweet moment on The One Show

Simon Pegg shared a sweet moment with Hannah Waddingham on The One Show as she gave him a shout out for his work in Tom Cruise's latest Mission: Impossible movie. The pair co-star in The Final Reckoning, with Waddingham making her debut in the franchise as Admiral Neely, the head of an aircraft carrier, and Pegg back as technical field agent Benji Dunn. As Pegg was discussing the film on the BBC programme, Waddingham asked if she could say something. She then explained that she thought Pegg was "one of the most underrated actors" and that he was "the heart" of the Mission movie. Pegg had been discussing his character's journey in the franchise, when Ted Lasso star Waddingham said: "Can I just say something about this man because he will never say it himself?" She went on: "He is so much the heart of this film. Every time he does his thing, the audience are going nuts, honestly I think he is one of the most underrated actors that we have." Hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp were moved, with Jones exclaiming: "Aw!" "No, because he really is," said Waddingham. "Because there is all the action of it all, there is the Tom of it all, but this man brings so much heart and comedy at the same time and I really think he is so underrated as a dramatic actor... he will make you cry your eyes out." "Wow... love it!" said Kemp. Pegg looked touched, and pretended to cry before leaning over to hug his co-star as the presenters looked on. Waddingham also talked about her role in the film, sharing what it was like to join the cast of Cruise's franchise. She said: "I met Tom and (director) Chris McQuarrie on the tarmac on the runway with my rucksack on my back. I met them on the runway, we got into a Black Hawk helicopter, flew out, literally me going, 'Be cool, this is absolutely fine' and he was like, 'Let me put your bag under my feet' and I was like, 'OK!' "We flew out and suddenly we are in the ocean and coming alongside the real George HW Bush fighter carrier with 4,500 active serving men and women waiting for us on the deck. We land the helicopter and Tom, no word of a lie, over the cans went, 'Hannah, welcome to Mission!' and I was just like, (screams)." Some scenes of the movie were shot on an island off of Norway, where it was minus 40 degrees. Pegg told how the cast and crew battled the bitter cold and had to hide from polar bears. "You have what's called frostnip which is where your skin goes kind of white and as soon as they see that — they are watching the monitors — they come in and they blow a hairdryer in your face to warm you up," he said. "And then there were the polar bears, which was terrifying. It was incredible to see them in the wild and you just clear away. As soon as they are glimpsed on the horizon everybody hides and they just lumber through." The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays. Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning premieres in UK cinemas on Wednesday, 21 May.

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning action scenes, ranked

When you think of Mission: Impossible, the first thing you probably think about is the action that has defined the franchise since its inception. That's become especially true in later installments, which have been defined by Tom Cruise doing increasingly insane things to entertain audiences. The Final Reckoning has arrived, and it may or may not be the last installment in this franchise. We've ranked the five best major action sequences in The Final Reckoning to commemorate this film and its memorable set pieces. Recommended Videos 5. The opening pursuit The Final Reckoning is less action-forward than some previous installments in the franchise. The movie's opening pursuit is indicative of that, as Ethan and Grace try to hunt down Gabriel and the Entity following the events of Dead Reckoning. It's not the most inspiring stuff, but seeing Benji, Paris, and Theo rescue Ethan and Grace is a lovely subversion of how the action in these movies usually goes. 4. The showdown at the bunker This is a fairly conventional gunfight between the CIA and Gabriel's forces, and one that Ethan only shows up for near the end. It's followed by much more electrifying stuff, but even this relatively standard set piece is a reminder of Christopher McQuarrie's unique flair for action, even if it's not as inventive as some of what we've seen in previous installments. 3. The firefight with the Russians The best of the more minor action sequences in The Final Reckoning involves Grace and William Donloe's wife exchanging fire with Russian special forces as they try to get the coordinates for the Sevastopol, which he has memorized. It's yet another set piece that doesn't feel all that inventive. However, it's executed basically to perfection. It's also an important reminder of how good Haley Atwell is at the action part of the Mission formula. 2. The biplane chase Although the other entries on this list are notable, the two most important set pieces in The Final Reckoning occupy the top spots on this list. McQuarrie and Cruise have spent plenty of time discussing all the ways the actor's work outside of the biplane was dangerous. Let me tell you, it looks spectacular. As Ethan and Gabriel battle while flying over South Africa, we get to see just how much danger Cruise was willing to put himself in for the sake of a good shot. It's not quite as great as the helicopter fight at the end of Fallout, but it's definitely covering similar terrain and might feel even more perilous. 1. The Sevastopol extraction One of the greatest set pieces in the history of this entire franchise. The underwater work done by Ethan, who travels to the bottom of the ocean to extract the rabbit's foot from the Sevastopol, is simply stunning. Underwater cinematography is very easy to do wrong, but McQuarrie nails the ocean's beauty and its perilous nature. There have only been a handful of water stunts in Mission: Impossible's history. This is by far the best. Every obstacle Ethan encounters, right up until he's forced to swim back up to the surface with nothing but his underwear to protect him, makes the sequence more tense and alive. Like all of the best action sequences, I have no idea how they pulled it off. Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is now in theaters.

Simon Pegg and Pom Klementieff on wrapping their "Mission: Impossible" journey

Simon Pegg and Pom Klementieff are both saying goodbye to the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. They appeared on "CBS Mornings" on Wednesday to promote the latest film "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," which hits theaters this Friday. Pegg, who has been with the franchise for two decades, reprises his role as tech specialist Benji Dunn, while Klementieff returns as Paris, a character seeking revenge against her former boss Gabriel in this latest installment. "It's bittersweet," said Pegg, who filmed his first scene for the franchise in November 2005. "We've been working so hard. And here we are, and it's coming out. There's a sense of sort of achievement and completion, but also a sense like we're not going to hang out so much anymore." Klementieff said for her action sequences she had been "training for years" to perform a specific axe kick shown in the film. "We had an amazing stunt team," Klementieff said. "We took the time to rehearse, to do the high kicks, to rehearse the whole choreography." Her commitment to stunts has earned her the nickname "Pom Cruise" on set, a nod to franchise star Tom Cruise's legendary dedication to performing his own stunts. Klementieff admired Cruise for being "so passionate" about making movies and stunts. "His passion, his fire, his good energy ... on set, it makes you be even better," said Klementieff. When asked about how the franchise continues to top itself with each film, Pegg said while it is goodbye, there's more that could come. "Every time we finish a movie, that's it, isn't it? We can't do anymore," Pegg said. "With this one, I genuinely can't see how we could possibly risk his life any more than we do on this." "Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning" is distributed by Paramount Pictures, which is a subsidiary of Paramount Global, CBS News' parent company. The film hits theaters on Friday, May 23.

Simon Pegg feels 'bittersweet' as 'Mission: Impossible' franchise presses the stop button

The blockbuster film franchise 'Mission: Impossible' has approached its finale, and there won't be any other 'Mission: Impossible' movie. Naturally, it has left the fans emotional. However, even the actors associated with the film franchise are left with a bitter-sweet feeling, reports 'Female First UK'. Hollywood actor Simon Pegg thinks it's "bittersweet" that 'Mission: Impossible' is ending. The 55-year-old actor has portrayed I.M.F (Impossible Mission Force) technician Benji Dunn in the action franchise from 2006's 'Mission: Impossible III', and has now admitted it is "strange" to see the franchise be sunsetted with ' Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning '. Speaking with Collider, Pegg said, "It's strange. It's bittersweet, is the best way I can describe it. It's been such a ride. It's been such an amazing experience. I feel grateful, and I feel sad, and I'm excited for people to see this movie. I mean, what an incredible wrapping up". by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Keep Your Home Efficient with This Plug-In elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Learn More Undo The 'Hot Fuzz' star added director Christopher McQuarrie - who has helmed the series from 2015's 'Mission: Impossible, Rogue Nation', "has done such an incredible job" of building on what has come before, and crafting the story of Ethan Hunt ( Tom Cruise ). As per 'Female First UK', reflecting on his favourite moments from the series, Pegg revealed he never thought he would be involved in so many major action sequences in the 'Mission: Impossible' franchise. He said, "I drove a speedboat up the River Seine, which was so much fun. They basically closed the River Seine for me. There's a lot of aqua. In fact, it's all water-related. I drove a water taxi through Venice, and I rescued, or rather retrieved, Sean Harris from a submerged armored car wearing a rebreather, which is different to scuba. So, every day on 'Mission' is like that. Bombing through Casablanca in a battered BMW, being up there on the mountain watching Tom do that stunt where he jumped off a cliff. I mean, it's one of those jobs". Pegg's Benji Dunn will join Cruise's Ethan Hunt and the rest of his I.M.F. team - as portrayed by Hayley Atwell and Ving Rhames, in 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning', which will follow the agents as they desperately try to stop an all-powerful artificial intelligence known as The Entity from causing a nuclear apocalypse. Speaking on a panel at AwesomeCon about 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning', he said: "For me, it was my favourite of the six 'Missions' that I filmed. It was my favourite to shoot. "We were in the Arctic; we were in South Africa. The stunts Tom is doing just beggar belief. I mean, really, really dumb s***." The 'Shaun of the Dead' actor added that his 62-year-old co-star was always "incredibly focused" and "incredibly careful" during his death-defying stunts. Pegg continued: "A lot of people say, 'Is he mad?' But he's not. He's incredibly focused, and he's incredibly careful when it comes to those stunts. "He rehearses and trains, but he does it because he actually cares so much about the cinematic experience for the audience, he will literally risk his life. Which he does, again and again, and it's kind of more inspiring to watch."
