Bentley to BRING BACK iconic model 100 years after it was discontinued – and this time it will be fully electric

BENTLEY is bringing back its legendary model nearly 100 years after it was discontinued but it will be in limited numbers. The recreation of the iconic Bentley Blower has now completed 18 months of on-road testing and is ready to enter production. 5 5 But only 349 lucky drivers will get a chance to get their hands on the Bentley Blower Jnr. After driving 650 miles over three days on the Channel Island of Jersey, the new Blower has proven its on-road driving potential. The car was signed off for production where skilled engineers will put together the fully electric 48-volt powertrain while the craftspeople at Hedley Studios will hand-beat the panels of the Bentley Blower Jr.'s exterior. Mike Sayer, Head of Product Communications and the Bentley Heritage Collection for Bentley Motors, adds: 'From the moment that we first took the original 1929 Bentley Blower Team Car #2 to Hedley Studios, we knew this project was going to deliver something truly special. 'Years later, and with thousands of road miles under the wheels of the development prototypes – appropriately called EXPs as the first Bentleys were – we're ready to put the car into production.' The new motor is an 85 per cent scale of the original car which was first manufactured in 1929. The Blower Jr is fully electrically powered and slightly smaller than its predecessor - with the car measuring 3.7 metres long and 1.5 metres wide. But it is handcrafted to the same standards as any Bentley and is embellished with exquisite details all inspired by the original car. The Blower Jr can reach a top speed of 45 mph in the UK and an anticipated range of about 65 miles, with tandem seating for two adults. An actual chassis specification is connected to the painted steel frame. A smooth ride is provided by leaf springs and reduced, period-appropriate friction dampers, while stopping power is supplied by Brembo disc brakes up front and drums down back. The batteries and driving electronics are kept under a concealed undertray, and the electric motor is positioned across the back axle. Ben Hedley, CEO and Founder of Hedley Studios, said: 'Heading into production of the Bentley Blower Jnr marks a seminal moment for our brand, as we bring to life our very first road-legal piece of automotive art. 'Our team of engineers and craftspeople have worked tirelessly to design and craft the Bentley Blower Jnr, and in close collaboration with clients around the world, they have begun the design process of some wonderfully unique examples of the Bentley Blower Jnr. 'We're anticipating that the first customer deliveries will commence in just a matter of months, and we're just as excited as our clients are to see them behind the wheel and out on the road.' The lucky few who will purchase the Bentley Blower Jr will be able to customise it to their preference with Hedley Studios' team making their fantasies into reality. 5 5

Bentley Teases New Bentayga Performance Variant with a Drift Mode

Bentley is teasing a new variant of the Bentayga SUV, and we think it's a successor to the W-12-powered Bentayga Speed that was last sold in 2023. Bentley says this new SUV model will have a nonhybrid twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes more power than the old W-12's 626 ponies. A new dynamic stability-control mode will allow the Bentayga to drift, while a special sports exhaust should emit a raucous engine note. The Bentley Bentayga is known for large-displacement and potent engines, richly upholstered interiors, and an ostentatious design. What the British automaker's only SUV is not synonymous with is sliding sideways through a corner, with the rear tires spinning up a cloud of smoke. But Bentley is teasing a new performance-focused variant of the Bentayga, set to be revealed on Monday, June 2, that promises to be capable of performing dramatic drifts. Bentley didn't provide a name for this new Bentayga model, but the luxury SUV has been without a Speed trim since the 2023 model year, so we wouldn't be surprised if this hi-po model carries that moniker. Bentley has revealed that this new version of the Bentayga will pack a twin-turbocharged, non-hybrid V-8 engine. Bentley says it will have more power than the W-12 engine found in the previous Bentayga Speed, further reinforcing the idea that this one is a new iteration of the Speed nameplate. Bentley The new V-8-powered Bentayga model is a replacement for the pre-refresh W-12-powered Bentayga Speed, seen here. That claim would mean the new Bentayga Speed will produce more than 626 horsepower. Currently, the Bentayga is only offered with a 443-hp hybrid powertrain consisting of a turbocharged V-6 and an electric motor, as well as a 542-hp twin-turbocharged V-8. This suggests the new model will have at least 85 more horses than the most potent Bentayga currently for sale. Interestingly, Bentley isn't slotting in the new 771-hp hybrid powertrain found in the latest Continental GT Speed and Flying Spur Speed into the Bentayga, at least not yet. Bentley divulged a few other details about this new Bentayga ahead of its unveiling. The SUV will pack a new sports exhaust with two elliptical tailpipes that protrude from the rear diffuser, as seen in the teaser photo. Bentley also said there will be a new ESC Dynamic (stability control) mode that will "permit exhilarating drift angles." That sounds promising, and we look forward to performing comedically lurid slides in the 5600-pound-plus behemoth. The latest Bentayga variant will be revealed at 7:30 a.m. ET on June 2. Bentley's New Bentayga Will Have 'More Power' Than the W-12

Bentley already offers a smattering of engine options for the Bentayga SUVs, ranging from the base V-6 hybrid to the powerful V-8 Speed. But now, the British luxury car maker has another Bentayga on the horizon—and it promises to be even more potent than the previous W-12 model. Bentley is keeping most of the juicy details a secret, but the company does promise a V-8 engine with "more power" than the previous 12-cylinder Speed model, a standard sports exhaust, and even a new Sport calibration with a drift mode. That's right, a Bentley that drifts . The company also says that this new Bentayga will be "faster and more agile" than any Bentley SUV before it, as well as the "most emotional and engaging Bentayga to date." For reference, the Bentayga W-12 made 600 horsepower and could race to 60 miles per hour in 4.0 seconds flat before it was discontinued last year. Of course, we've already seen Bentley's new V-8 hybrid powertrain in the metal, which makes nearly 740 horsepower and returns up to 50 miles of electric range (WLTP). Last May, the company said that this new hybrid powertrain would 'define the future of Bentley"—so we assume this is what will be underhood of the upcoming Bentayga. But we won't know for sure until the new Bentayga debuts. Bentley will show its powerful new SUV on Monday, June 2, at 7:00 AM ET (12:30 BST). Mark your calendars. Car parks could be covered in solar panels to deliver EV charging as part of latest Net Zero push

EV drivers could benefit from cheaper public charging if the Government goes ahead with new 'solar car parks'. The introduction of solar canopies in car parks aims to give EV drivers cheaper charging costs and save motorists money - and also would mean fewer panels being built on fields. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband has announced a call for evidence to understand how to harness the untapped potential of solar car parks across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Lilian Greenwood, Future of Roads Minister, said: 'We're committed to ensuring electric car drivers are always close to a charger and can save money when making the switch. 'Today is another positive example of how we're harnessing the net zero transition to give drivers more choice and help them get around with greater peace of mind.' The Government pointed to multiple examples of solar carports, the biggest being the Bentley Motors manufacturing facility in Cheshire - the largest solar carport in the UK. Its 10,000 solar panels generate 2.7MW and work in tandem with 6.6MW of battery storage so that all Bentley's manufacturing operations can be solar powered. The move is part of the Government's Plan for Change, and would help supermarkets, retail parks and offices also save money on their energy bills by turning their car parks into 'solar carports', by being powered by clean, cheap and secure power. The savings, of up to an estimated £28,000 a year for an 80-space car park, could also be coupled with companies making back the cost of installing solar in car parks by selling energy back to the grid. Solar carports are already mandatory in some European countries, including France and Slovenia, providing an abundance cheaper solar power. As well as delivering cheap EV charging, solar canopies provide cover and shade cooler environment, a benefit to both car and customer. Ben Cox, of Sovereign Centros - a group that runs shopping centres and retail parks - said: 'With the largest number of EV charging points of any shopping centre in the country, and over 5,000 PV panels in action, including those on car ports in Green and Blue Mall car parks, we have already taken great steps to secure a more sustainable future. 'We welcome the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero's call for evidence which will allow us to invest further into these facilities to support the government's national agenda.' Examples of solar carports across the UK Last year This is Money visited Dundee Council's solar charging hubs. The council has a multi-model charging hub on Queen Street, Broughty Ferry – which has six contactless payment 50kW chargers and five 22kW chargers powered by a solar canopy – and a Clepington Road charging hub, which has a state-of-the-art Bluewater rain water filtration system fitted in the canopy roof. The Greenmarket multi-storey car park's 20 charging bays are also powered by solar canopies which output 41kW. One central unit controls the chargers, releasing energy when needed under 'dynamic load management', making energy output cheaper. Second life EV batteries – which can no longer power an EV - store solar energy to use when energy demand is higher. This innovative battery storage system is also in play at the Clepington Road charging hub. Each of Clepington's two second-life battery storage units can store energy – either from the sun or cheap off-peak energy - to power 5,000 charging sessions (if each driver uses an average 20kW), making charging more eco and cheaper. The government has also pointed to the examples of Eastbourne District General Hospital which became the first solar carport to power a hospital, cutting the hospital's emissions by 222 tonnes in the first year, and Stourton Park & Ride in Leeds which hosts a 1.2 MW solar carport, providing EV charging infrastructure for 26 spaces. The Metrocentre in Gateshead also has over 5,300 rooftop and carport solar panels providing enough power to supply 40 per cent of their annual electricity usage. How solar panels can reduce cost of public charging - InstaVolt InstaVolt's Winchester Superhub is the first InstaVolt site to feature an on-site solar farm. The 870 panels and advanced battery storage systems with 960kW/4MWh total capacity, reduce reliance on the national grid, enabling the site to generate and store clean energy. This cost-effective and self-sufficient energy model keeps operational costs low and shields against energy price volatility, with savings passed directly to drivers through reduced tariffs. As such there's a standard charging rate at the flagship Winchester Superhub of 65p per kWh which can be accessed using the InstaVolt App or RFID card. Off-peak charging is even less thanks to the solar panels, at just 50p per kWh, from 7pm to 7am daily. This is one of the cheapest PAYG ultra-rapid rates in the country.
