New Jersey Student in Critical Condition After Stabbing Leads to High School Lockdown, Another Student Arrested
One student is in critical condition and another in custody after a stabbing at a New Jersey high school. Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, an officer assigned to Fort Lee High School issued an emergency radio call to local authorities to report a stabbing, according to and citing Jeff Angermeyer, deputy chief of detectives in the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. The Fort Lee Police Department said in a news release that the officer was inside the school when the incident occurred and that the school was "immediately" placed on lockdown. The message, which was posted on Facebook by state Sen. Holly Schepisi, said that while there was "no immediate threat to the safety of our school community," people were urged not to come to the school. After officers arrived, a male student was found stabbed "multiple times," the prosecutor's office said, per the outlets. "The Officer, along with the assistance of school staff, applied immediate first aid to the juvenile victim, who was soon after transported to an area hospital and survived," the police department's news release said. The Fort Lee Police Department said that "the assailant, another student, was taken into custody." The assailant's name was not released. In a message on their website, the Fort Lee Board of Education (Fort Lee Public Schools) also confirmed that a suspect was arrested and that "there is now an active investigation underway by the Fort Lee Police Department and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office." "All involved parties have been notified directly," the message said. While security protocol was lifted following an initial on-scene investigation, students received an early dismissal and the Fort Lee Police Department said: "Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an extra police presence in and around the High School tomorrow, however there is no further threat that we are aware of at this time, and no other suspects are being sought." With that said, here is what some sites said are the average salaries for lawyers in New Jersey depending on their job. The average New Jersey public defender salary, according to ZipRecruiter, is $109,171. While six figures is the average salary, 10% of jobs as public defenders make between $100,508 and $114,721. The most common salary range for public defenders in NJ is between $71,574 and $85,786 with 24% falling in this range, said ZipRecruiter. Business owner on the mend after crossbow shooting, suspect in custody
SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (PIX11) — Police have arrested a man in connection to a business owner who was shot in the face with a crossbow at Birds By Joe 2 on Route 46. Raymond M. Carey, 53, of Hasbrouck Heights was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon and charged with first-degree attempted murder. More: Latest News from Around the Tri-State The incident happened around 5:55 p.m. Monday. The victim, who is the owner of the business, was able to disarm the suspect after being shot, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office. She sustained a broken tooth, among other facial injuries, and was rushed to the hospital. The suspect reportedly fled in a vehicle that was parked outside of the business, officials said. The victim's friend Denis Taskin, said the suspect is a regular customer at the store. 'She has no idea why he did it,' said Taskin. 'She said he comes here every other week to get seeds and other stuff, so we don't know why he did it.' 'She's doing better right now, but she's traumatized,' Taskin added. Ryan Oracz, the manager of The Original Bike Shop, the business adjacent to the bird store, saw the immediate aftermath of the attack and called 911. 'Katarina had walked in – more like ran in – screaming 'help me,' said manager Ryan Oracz. 'I jumped up from around the corner, and looked down the aisle, blood coming from her mouth and she had something in her hands. The parrot has safely been returned, but the person who stole it remains at large. It's unclear if the two incidents are connected, but the owner does not believe they are. 'I just hope they start bringing in a second hand, somebody there that's with her at all times because there have been recent events.'
