All-Berklee Production Powers Emilia Vaughn's 'Limbo,' A Collaboration with Matt Rollings
'Limbo' is a raw, emotional journey through self-doubt and healing, crafted with Berklee talent and brought to life by Grammy-winner Matt Rollings. Listen Now. 'The combination of her hauntingly beautiful and vulnerable vocal performance, killer guitar playing and 'way beyond her years' songwriting made my job incredibly easy.'— Matt Rollings BOSTON, MA, UNITED STATES, June 6, 2025 / / -- Rising alternative pop artist Emilia Vaughn announces the release of her haunting and emotionally rich new single, " Limbo,' available everywhere on June 6, 2025. The Berklee production will be released under Emilia Vaughn Entertainment and Media Group LLC // DNT Entertainment and distributed globally by The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment. Produced and arranged by the legendary Matt Rollings, a Grammy-winning producer, artist, and pianist, 'Limbo' is more than just a song; it's a journal entry frozen in melody. With dreamy textures, understated guitar lines, and raw vocal delivery, Vaughn explores the quiet chaos of emotional stasis: the fear of moving forward, the ache of looking back, and the soft hope of finding direction again. Inspired by a season of introspection and creative hesitation, Vaughn penned 'Limbo' during a time when her confidence as an artist was wavering. Serendipitously, during a workshop at Berklee College of Music where Rollings was serving as a visiting artist in residence, he discovered and selected 'Limbo' as a focus track for his production class. This moment of affirmation marked a creative turning point for Vaughn, bringing new life to a song that had almost ironically stayed in limbo. 'While writing this song, I was deeply feeling the uncertainty of being in limbo with my artistry,' Vaughn reflects. 'In a beautiful twist of fate, the incredible artist Matt Rollings selected it for his production class. That experience brought the song to life. It felt like the sign I was waiting for, some steps in my yellow brick road.' Recorded across multiple studios, including The Ark Studio and Shames Studio at Berklee College of Music, and The Woodshop in Trinidad, CA, 'Limbo' boasts contributions from a talented roster of live musicians. Vaughn's acoustic guitar and vocal performance are backed by lush instrumentation: live drums and percussion from Otto Cook Sharp, piano by Michael Donovan, bass from Noam Bushkanitz, electric guitar by Andre Correa, and Rollings himself on glockenspiel and keyboards. The track was mixed by Adam Schwartz and Matt Rollings, and mastered by Jake Arnowitz. 'When I started my Production Workshop at Berklee, I was unprepared to encounter a talent like Emilia. The combination of her hauntingly beautiful and vulnerable vocal performance, killer guitar playing and 'way beyond her years' songwriting made my job incredibly easy. The student musicians and engineers all brought their A++ game as well, and we cut the track on Emilia's 21st birthday! I'm really proud of what we all made together….. " - Matt Rollings A true reflection of Emilia's commitment to artistry and mental health advocacy, 'Limbo' invites listeners into a space of vulnerability, healing, and hope. With its evocative lyricism, 'I just don't know how to get back home,' the song gives voice to the often-unspoken truth of feeling stuck, yet still searching. Berklee students showcase their musical talents at Boston Calling's special stage
Berklee College of Music has a history of showing up and showing out at Boston Calling. Now current students are getting their own stage. The arena is being revived as a jazz lounge. For freshman Su Yavuz, a seasoned performer here in Boston, it's a stage she's never seen before. "I was, of course, like shocked," said Yavuz. "Like this is amazing and surreal, especially right now I'm a freshman at Berklee and as a freshman to be doing this, just feels so surreal." Bringing variety of music to jazz lounge Yavuz said she'll be bringing a variety of genres to all three days of the festival. "Kendrick, Dochii, I like to mix it up and play instrumentals, get influences and providing the rap picks, kinda like stuff like that, which is really interesting, but really fun to play," said Yavuz. She won't be alone, Manuela Sanchez Goubert is also ready to show what she can do. "It feels like a reaffirmation of all the work that I've been doing throughout my career," said Goubert. "I think a lot of the time as artists, we feel like our work is kind of going into the emptiness and it's like not seen by anybody, but when things like this come, it's like a reassurance that I'm on the right path, that the work that I'm doing counts for something and that I'm making a difference with music." Only seven selected out of more than 100 That work is what set them apart during the initial search for talent. Just seven students were selected out of more than 100 applications. "What made these individuals stand out is a little bit, I guess, diversity and genre. Berklee has a lot to offer as far as from the people who come here," said Michael Borgida, director of concert and video production at Berklee. Each brings their own unique blend of sound and style. "We have Latin jazz, as you heard," said Borgida. "And then there's some soul music and R&B in there as well with jazz. So I think diversity, professionalism, and just having worked with some of these people before, I knew that they would be great fits." Now, their names will fit right into Boston Calling history. "I just love music festivals," says performer Tiril Jackson. "It's summer, everyone's having a good time. We're all gathered listening to music. It's just like the best." Last year, Berklee alum Kieran Rhodes rocked the Blue Stage just one week after graduating. This year, fellow alumni and indie-pop band Lucius is on the bill.

Boston Calling's indoor arena returns after 6 years: Here's what to expect
Boston Calling's on-site indoor arena, which returns to the music festival this year after several years, will serve as a chill space for attendees to get a break from the outdoors. The music festival's indoor arena — that's historically been used for everything from comedic sets to movie screenings — will return after eight years to give festival goers a new space to hear more live music, grab a drink and cool off. Jazz musicians from Berklee College of Music will perform in the air-conditioned space every afternoon and early evening of the three-day music festival. This marks a first-of-its-kind partnership between Boston Calling and Berklee and further's the festival's tradition of showcasing local music acts. 'Boston Calling is an iconic music festival that shares Berklee's desire to create more stages for musicians here in the city,' Berklee President Jim Lucchese said in a press release. 'Boston Calling also provides a fantastic opportunity for these students to experience and learn about the workings of a large scale festival from the inside.' A full list of performances is below: Friday, May 23 at 2 p.m.: Tiril Jackson Friday, May 23 at 4:10 p.m.: Devon Gates & Friends Friday, May 23 at 6:20 p.m.: Su Yavuz Saturday, May 24 at 2 p.m.: Srisley Saturday, May 24 at 4:10 p.m.: Su Yavuz Saturday, May 24 at 6:20 p.m.: Solaya + The Effect Sunday, May 25 at 2 p.m.: Manuela Sánchez Goubert Sunday, May 25 at 4:10 p.m.: Aniyé Sunday, May 25 at 6:20 p.m.: Su Yavuz All Boston Calling attendees — regardless of their ticket status — can enter and exit the arena as often as they like. Beverages will also be available for purchase. The indoor arena is located to the left of the main entrance, adjacent to the merchandise tables and just before the Blue Stage. When Boston Calling was first moved to the Harvard Athletic Complex from City Hall Plaza in 2017, there was an indoor area of the venue called the 'Comedy Club arena,' according to a video from 'To your left, when you first come in [to Boston Calling], we have the 'Comedy Club' or the 'Comedy Arena,' which is a swank little indoor spot that has a bunch of tables and a bit of a nightclub vibe,' said a reporter in the 2017 Facebook video. In 2018, the arena was used for a film festival curated by Natalie Portman. It was last used in 2019 for a comedy special. This year will be the first time the arena will host live music. The return of the indoor arena was among several improvements the Boston Calling made after receiving backlash in 2024 over unsafe conditions, crowd control and capacity issues. Other improvements are more water stations, a reorganization of stages and lower ticket prices. Boston Calling will be held at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston Memorial Day weekend, Friday, May 23 through Sunday, May 25. More information about tickets can be found here.
