National EMS Memorial Service makes stop in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A procession honoring nearly 30 first responders killed in the line of duty made a stop in Albuquerque on Wednesday. The Bernalillo County Fire Department hosted the National EMS Memorial Service as it makes its way to Arlington, Virginia. The procession began Sunday in Riverside, California, and will make 29 stops in 19 states. 'The one thing we hear from the families every year is that their loved ones are always going to be forgotten. And being able to tell those families by showing the support that you all have shown and the love that you all have shown by just showing up today, that their loved ones are never going to be forgotten,' said Megan Haverkamp, Moving Honors Crew Chief, National EMS Memorial Service.

'So, having the honor of getting to host such an amazing event as it criss-crosses through the country on its way to Arlington is extremely meaningful. And meaningful for us as Bernalillo County Fire and Rescue, having lost a member of our own almost three years ago this July,' said Chief Greg Perez, Bernalillo County Fire Rescue.
The procession features a tree of life, honoring the 29 first responders who died last year.
