Prabowo: Indonesia can achieve energy self-sufficiency in six years
Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto speaks during a plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Saint Petersburg, Russia, June 20, 2025. -- REUTERS/Anton Vaganov KARAWANG, West Java (Bernama-ANTARA): Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has expressed optimism that Indonesia can achieve energy self-sufficiency within the next five to six years, ANTARA News Agency reported. He made the statement during a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem project in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday. "I have been informed by experts that our nation truly has the ability to achieve energy self-sufficiency, and based on my own calculations, it will not take long. In five years, six years at the latest, we can be energy self-sufficient,' he said. The head of state explained that one of the key pillars of national energy independence is the utilisation of solar power. President Prabowo stated that the battery technology to be produced in Karawang will play a vital role in efficiently storing and distributing solar energy. "Solar power's key lies in battery technology, and today we are witnessing that development,' he remarked. According to the report he received, the current capacity generated at the facility stands at 15 gigawatts. However, to achieve full energy independence, Indonesia will need around 100 gigawatts. "This means we need to multiply projects like this, and I believe our nation is capable of doing so,' Prabowo stated. The electric vehicle battery industry project is a collaboration between the state-owned mining company ANTAM, the Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and a consortium of CATL, Brunp, and Lygend (CBL). The project covers upstream to downstream processing and consists of six sub-projects, five of which are located in East Halmahera, North Maluku, and one in Karawang. As part of the National Strategic Projects (PSN), the project investment totals US$5.9 billion and covers an area of 3,023 hectares. It is expected to create up to 8,000 jobs and support the development of 18 infrastructure projects, including a multifunctional port. - Bernama-ANTARA

Indonesian transport ministry acts to prevent flight disruptions amid Middle East conflict
JAKARTA (Bernama-ANTARA): The Indonesian government has taken steps to mitigate potential flight disruptions caused by escalating conflict in the Middle East by coordinating with aviation stakeholders, including airlines and air traffic controllers, ANTARA news agency reported. In a statement issued on Sunday, Director General of Air Transport at the Ministry of Transportation, Lukman Laisa, said the ministry continues to monitor the Middle East situation closely to prevent any impact on Indonesia's flight operations. He said the ministry is working with state-run air navigation provider AirNav Indonesia, national airlines, and civil aviation authorities in relevant countries to ensure safe and seamless flight operations, particularly those that pass through Middle Eastern airspace. Laisa noted that, based on the latest Flight Information Region (FIR) data, several airspaces and flight routes in the region remain closed due to security concerns. "The eastern part of the Tehran FIR, parts of the Tel Aviv FIR, the Dubai FIR, and the Cairo FIR are still closed," he said. The ministry has reminded Indonesian airlines to monitor conditions regularly and adjust flight plans when necessary, especially for Hajj flights, which commonly transit the region. The public has been advised to remain calm and follow official updates from airlines and flight authorities. "Updates will be provided regularly based on real-time conditions," Laisa added. Meanwhile, flag carrier Garuda Indonesia resumed its regular Jakarta-Doha route on Saturday after Qatar reopened its airspace. Several other international airlines, including Qatar Airways, have also resumed flights to and from Qatar following the recent escalation. - Bernama-ANTARA

The Indonesian EMT's assistance is scheduled to conclude on Monday after providing 14 days of medical services in Ottara District, Naypyitaw, which was struck by the earthquake on March 28, reported ANTARA news agency. "If the Myanmar Ministry of Health wishes to continue this cooperation, it can be discussed through bilateral channels," Widjaja noted in a statement on Monday. According to Widjaja, Myanmar's Minister of Health, Dr Thet Khaing Win, and Naypyitaw Governor Than Tun Oo commended the Indonesian medical team's services to residents in the affected area. Widjaja explained that the Indonesian EMT health post operates daily from 08:30 to 16:30 local time in the yard of the 50-bed Ottarathiri Hospital, Ottara District, Naypyitaw. He reported that the average number of patients served could reach 315 people per day. The team's general practitioners and specialists have treated several cases, including muscle pain, arthritis, minor injuries, upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), back pain, vertigo, gastritis, and headaches. The team also handles emergency cases such as lacerations, stab wounds, fractures, and strokes. With no operational extension, Widjaja stated that all facilities and infrastructure of the Indonesian EMT field hospital will be handed over to the 50-bed Ottarathiri Hospital, with the symbolic handover to be witnessed by officials from the Myanmar Ministry of Health. Widjaja noted that the health services provided by the Indonesian EMT were well-received by the local government and residents. "Our work here will certainly be a beautiful memory for the people of Myanmar. This is a memory of the kindness of the Indonesian people shown through the EMT during the emergency response after the earthquake in Myanmar," he noted. - Bernama-ANTARA
