Bernardine Franciscan Sisters receive $10,000 grant to support adult literacy center in Reading
The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters have received a $10,000 grant to support their adult literacy center in Reading.
The grant comes from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and will enable the Mother Veronica Adult Education Center at 449 S. Sixth St. to buy new instructional materials, renew software licenses and provide specialized teacher training over the next year, officials said in a release.
The center provides classes and tutoring in English as a Second Language, GED preparation, adult basic education, computer training and citizenship preparation.
'This generous grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will help equip hundreds of adults with the essential literacy and workforce skills they need to improve their lives,' officials said.
The funds are a part of a record-setting, one-day donation in the foundation's history of more than $13.2 million to support adult, family, and summer literacy programs in the 48 states in which Dollar General operates.
