Oklahoma Sooners add former LSU pitcher Sydney Berzon via transfer portal

Oklahoma Sooners add former LSU pitcher Sydney Berzon via transfer portal The Oklahoma Sooners have made their first splash in the 2025 softball transfer portal window with the addition of LSU ace pitcher Sydney Berzon. Berzon announced her commitment via Instagram. Berzon was 18-8 in 2025 with a 2.46 ERA in 30 appearances for the Tigers. She threw 139.1 innings and allowed an opponents batting average of .228. She threw six complete games, including a 199-pitch outing back in May. Berzon recorded 104 strikeouts to just 44 walks on the season. Berzon provides the Sooners with a veteran arm with a lot of experience. She appeared in 100 games in her three seasons in Baton Rouge, compiling a 52-25 record with a career ERA of 2.02 and 3.2 strikeouts to walks during her career. She was a second-team All-SEC selection in 2025, helping guide the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament. She threw a complete game shutout in an elimination game against UCONN, where she allowed five hits and two walks over seven innings in a 3-0 win. Berzon only threw one other inning in the Baton Rouge regional, coming in for 1.1 and allowing one earned run in a game the Tigers allowed five unearned runs on three errors. With the departure of Sam Landry, the Oklahoma Sooners didn't have a pitcher projected to be on the roster with more than 100 innings pitched in a season at the collegiate level. She'll have just one more season of eligibility in 2026. Oklahoma Sooners Projected Pitching Staff Sydney Berzon, Senior Kierston Deal, Senior Peytn Monticelli, Senior Audrey Lowry, Sophomore Allyssa Parker, True Freshman (No. 1 pitcher in 2025 recruiting class) Berkley Zache, True Freshman (No. 5 pitcher in 2025 recruiting class) Contact/Follow us @SoonersWire on X, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oklahoma news, notes, and opinions. Oklahoma Sooners defeat LSU 4-1 in SEC Softball Tournament

Oklahoma Sooners defeat LSU 4-1 in SEC Softball Tournament The Oklahoma Sooners earned a strong win over the No. 9 LSU Tigers behind a fantastic pitching performance from Sam Landry. Landry recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first, recording a couple of full-count strikeouts to keep the Tigers' offense at bay. The Sooners provided Landry with some offense in the bottom of the first when they loaded the bases with three walks against LSU pitcher Sydney Berzon. Berzon then hit Cydney Sanders with a pitch to allow the first run of the game. That's all Oklahoma could come away with as Berzon forced three ground outs to get out of the inning. Landry allowed a couple of walks in the top of the second but the Tigers couldn't capitalize against Oklahoma's ace. Neither team got on the board in the second or third innings. Landry retired the side in order in the third and fourth innings and Sydney Barker came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to provide a little insurance. That was until the fifth when Cydney Sanders provided Oklahoma their first SEC tournament home run, blasting a two-run bomb to put the Sooners up 4-0 in the fifth. LSU finally got on the board in the sixth on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly, but that's all the damage Landry allowed. In the top of the seventh, Landry recorded the shutdown inning, retiring the side in order to close out the game. In the complete-game shutout, Landry allowed just one hit, four walks, and one earned fun. She threw 125 pitches to move to 19-4 on the season. Sanders had a fantastic game at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a home run, a walk, a hit by pitch, and three RBIs. Ella Parker and Abigale Dayton were the only other Sooners to reach base twice. The Sooners now await the winner of Arkansas vs. Tennessee. Arkansas defeated Georgia on a Bri Ellis walk-off grand slam. Tennessee is playing its first game of the tournament on Thursday.
