The fantasy thriller 'KA', directed by the brothers Sujith and Sandeep, has emerged as a major success film critically and commercially. Recently, 'KA' won the Best Film Award at the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival 2025 . The online streaming platform where the film is available to watch shared the news through their social media handle on X (formerly Twitter). They wrote, "KA bags the Best Film Award at the Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival 2025! From festival fireworks to award spotlights, this Diwali release just keeps shining! @Kiran_Abbavaram nailed hearts…Debut directors Sujeeth & Sandeep ruled minds #KATheFilm @srichakraas." The film stars Kiran Abbavaram in a compelling dual role, alongside Nayan Sarika and Tanvi Ram, and has been widely praised for its gripping storyline and strong performances. The film was made on a modest budget of Rs 10 crore as per an OTTPlay report, and went on to gross over Rs 53 crore worldwide, marking the highest box office collection in Kiran Abbavaram's career. 'KA' takes place in the mysterious mountain village of Krishnagiri, where Vasudev, played by Kiran Abbavaram, works as a postman. Orphaned and raised in an orphanage, Vasudev has always been fascinated by letters and the stories they carry. His quiet life takes a dark turn when girls in the village start disappearing. When his love interest, Satyabhama, is targeted, Vasudev steps in to investigate, uncovering shocking secrets hidden beneath the village's serene surface. The film opens with a tense scene where a masked man interrogates Vasudev using a hypnotic clock to unlock buried memories, setting the tone for a slow-burning mystery that keeps audiences hooked until its rewarding climax. After its theatrical run, 'KA' was released for streaming on ETV Win from November 28, 2024.

Pasant Elzaitony The seventh Arab Film Festival in Zurich concluded with an award ceremony that witnessed a great interaction by the audience. The feature film ' Aicha ' won the Best Film Award, directed by Mehdi Barsaoui, and the award was received by the protagonist of the film, the brilliant Tunisian actress Fatima Safar, who played a distinctive role, while the Best Director Award was awarded to the feature documentary film 'White Lie', a Tunisian-Egyptian-Qatari-Saudi production by director Asmaa Al-Madir. For the first time, the festival dedicated the Audience Award, which was won by Iraqi-Dutch filmmaker Weam Al-Zabari for his feature-length documentary Abi, Noor and Me. The 'Animation Lab' attracted attention as a pioneering step towards fostering collaboration between Swiss and Arab filmmakers. The Lab's jury, consisting of Maryam Essa Al-Khelaifi, Ivana Kvesic, and Kat Woodtley, was introduced to a range of new animation talent with the support of Harvard University's Animation Department and the Fantosh International Festival, and the event was also supported by the Zurich Film Foundation. While the awards are sponsored by Katara Studios in Qatar and Concave Studios in Egypt, the jury and participants emphasized the importance of continuing this initiative in the coming years. The four projects that won the awards were: An Exceptional Plant by Ahmad Al-Houli (Kuwait/Switzerland), Once Upon a Place by Raghad Al-Barqi (Saudi Arabia), Seven Mountains and Seven Seas by Noel Kesrouani (Lebanon), and Wild Flower by Jinan Dagher (Lebanon). One of the new events in this year's edition - which the audience liked - was the 'Virtual Reality' event, which gave the audience a unique opportunity to interact with current issues affecting the Arab world and the possibility of discussing and dialoguing with the protagonists of the experience, and the audience requested that this event continue in future editions of the festival. At the conclusion of the event, the festival thanked all its supporters, including the City of Zurich, the Canton of Zurich, and the SüdKulturFonds of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The Catholic and Reformed Church of the Canton of Zurich and other cultural initiatives. Zawya Short Film Festival Reveals 2025 Lineup

The festival will be led by three Egyptian jury members: Bassam Murtaza, Heba Yusri and Essam Zakaria. Mar 06, 2025 Downtown Cairo's Zawya Cinema recently released the lineup for the 9th edition of its Zawya Short Film Festival, which will run from March 12th to the 26th. The festival is giving away a total prize pool of EGP 90,000 across four awards: the 'Best Film Award,' the 'Best Director Award,' the 'Best Jury' award and the 'Audience Award'. There will also be a 'Dashur Workshop Award', which does not sport a cash prize. The festival will be led by three Egyptian jury members: Bassam Murtaza, director of several short films and video unit director of Masr El Youm; Heba Yusri, an esteemed Egyptian short film director, who also both wrote and starred in her first award-winning short film 'Another Love;' and Essam Zakaria; an Egyptian journalist, lecturer, film critic who wrote for large Arab publications such as 'Sabah El Kheir' magazine.
