Lucy Dacus Dazzles New York City Fans On Her ‘Forever Is A Feeling' Tour
Lucy Dacus credit: Shervin Lainez It's remarkable how Lucy Dacus' career trajectory has changed in almost a decade. In June 2016, the same year she released her debut LP No Burden, the indie singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia, played a very modest-sized stage at Rough Trade NYC in Brooklyn, New York. Afterward, with each subsequent record and steady touring, Dacus built up critical acclaim for her exquisite alto singing and heartfelt music about the complicated and tender moments of love and relationships. Fast forward to the present, and Dacus' fame has grown exponentially as a member of the popular supergroup boygenius (with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker), which culminated in their hugely popular 2022 debut album The Record, which racked up three Grammy Awards for the trio. Dacus has recently released her first solo album in four years, Forever Is a Feeling, another fine notch in her belt. In a recent Newsweek interview, she said of that album. "I'm not obsessed with the stories of my past. What really interests me right now is my present moment. It's primarily about love and what love means and how it functions in my life and society." The album's lush atmospherics and cinematic sound translated quite well on stage during Dacus' appearance Thursday at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, for the second of two sold-out shows. This venue was much larger and housed a bigger crowd in contrast to her 2016 show at the now-defunct Rough Trade NYC location in Brooklyn—further proof of Dacus' growing fan base. Another example of how far she had come is the stage backdrop, which was modeled after a museum gallery with electronic screens shaped like hanging picture frames. Despite all the bells and whistles of being on a legendary stage and with an elaborate stage setup, Dacus kept the focus on the music and the results were spellbinding. Accompanied by ber ace band, she performed a majority of the songs from Forever Is a Feeling—among them 'Best Guess,' 'Ankles,' 'Talk,' 'For Keeps,' 'Modigliani' and 'Limerence,' the latter sounding more heartbreakingly beautiful live than it was on the record. Some of Dacus' old favorites were sprinkled into the set, including 'VBS,' 'Hot & Heavy' and 'I Don't Wanna Be Funny Anymore.' A highlight during her New York City run was the surprise appearance of the Irish singer Hozier, who duetted with Dacus on the song 'Bullseye,' reprising his role from the studio version of sht song that appeared on Forever Is a Feeling. Hozier didn't make a return for the Thursday show, but the artist jasmine.4.t, one of the opening acts for Dacus' shows on the tour (the other being MUNA's Katie Gavin), ably filled in for him. After performing the tear-jerking songs from Forever Is a Feeling — 'Lost Time' and the title track — Dacus and her band returned to the stage for the encore. That included a performance of the song 'Bus Back to Richmond,' which has not yet been released on record; the boygenius song 'True Blue' and 'Night Shift from Dacus' second album Historian. Dacus had the crowd in her pocket and expressed genuine affection towards the fans in between songs. In turn, the fans reciprocated their love towards the singer not only by cheering with passionate fervor but also by singing the words to the songs. For those who have followed Dacus since the beginning of her career 10 years ago, this Radio City appearance felt like a well-deserved victory lap for an artist who has consistently stayed true to her musical vision. Setlist: Hot & Heavy Ankles Big Deal Modigliani Limerence Best Guess First Time VBS Talk Nonbeliever For Keeps Partner in Crime I Don't Wanna Be Funny Anymore Bullseye (with jasmine.4.t) Most Wanted Man Lost Time Forever Is a Feeling Encore: Bus Back to Richmond True Blue (boygenius song) Night Shift

Lucy Dacus and Katie Gavin recreated THIS lesbian iconic magazine cover
Lucy Dacus and MUNA's Katie Gavin are taking us right back to the '90s with a recreation of an iconic magazine cover from sapphic history. Gracing the April 2025 cover of Alternative Press, Dacus donned menswear as she relaxed in a barber's chair. Meanwhile, Gavin, in a swimsuit and boots, held a razor to her neck, prepared to give the "Best Guess" singer a shave. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lesbianly online (@sapphic_sandwich) If this feels familiar, it's because it's the same cover Vanity Fair did 32 years ago — only with k.d. lang and Cindy Crawford subverting gender norms. This modern take is a cheeky, gorgeous callback to a truly iconic moment in queer pop culture. The original made space for butch-femme imagery in a mainstream magazine in a time when "lesbian" was still treated as a dirty word and years before Laura Dern's career took a temporary dive for even guest starring as one in the infamous coming out episode of Ellen. Now, three decades later, this recreation reminds us how far we've come while also providing an almost surreal sense of déjà vu considering the current political climate. Both artists have long been beloved for taking up space in the music world while being unapologetically queer. Seeing them channel Crawford and lang feels like more than just homage. It's a continuation of a conversation about gender, attraction, and presentation that never really stopped. The fact that this cover dropped in 2025, amid a wave of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and legislation, makes it hit even harder. It's a visual reminder that queer art, queer history, and queer joy aren't going anywhere — no matter how loudly some might wish otherwise. And on top of everything else, it's proof that a good suit, a bold lip, and a delightful bit of subtext will always be in style.

Yes, that's Cara Delevingne as one of the hot butches in the new Lucy Dacus video
'This song is dedicated to lesbians,' Lucy Dacus said when she debuted Best Guess back in October at Boygenius bandmate Julien Baker's show. And the lesbians and bisexuals thank her for her services to music videos. Dacus has been blessing queer women everywhere with her new self-directed music videos. First there was January's Ankles, which featured a sapphic romance between an escapee princess from a portrait and a harangued security guard, played by Havana Rose Liu (the hot popular girl in Bottoms) in a sharp suit. Now we have Best Guess, starring Cara Delevingne in a shirt and suspenders and a slicked back bun, insouciantly chewing on a toothpick and sitting down to a game of poker. Dacus, who is one third of indie pop group Boygenius, directs and stars in the video with a concept best described as: wow, look at all these hot mascs! She gazes admiringly as butch lesbians and trans men in wife-beaters or suits arm wrestle, box, gamble, and do press ups. Best Guess is practically a who's who – and who has dated who – of alt queer arty It girls, gays and theys. Alongside Delavigne (who notably dated St Vincent, before the latter announced her secret wife and child at the Grammys) it also stars the singer and Muna band member Naomi McPherson, the non-binary actor ER Fightmaster, and Towa Bird – the singer and guitar player currently dating fellow musician Renee Rap. Dacus also cast friends and fans she found online in the music video. The artist has also been putting her money behind important queer causes, pledging $10,000 for trans people raising cash for surgery on GoFundMe in response to Donald Trump's attacks on trans rights in the US. While it's a bad time for LGBTQ+ rights both sides of the Atlantic (looking at you, Wes Streeting), at least we're in a golden age of out and proud queer women making art. Artists such as Chappell Roan, Doechii, Billy Eilish, Dacus and St Vincent all openly date women and are booking huge venues – something that would not have been a given even a decade ago. Dacus's new album, Forever is a Feeling, is out on 28 March, and Dacus has just announced a UK tour that will be stopping at London's O2 Brixton Academy on 26 June. Tickets go on sale on Friday 21 February – see you in the queue, girl kissers.
