More than 1500 people turn out for WA Day at the Geraldton Museum
A gloomy forecast gave way to sunshine as more than 1500 people turned out for WA Day celebrations at the Geraldton Museum on Monday. The chance of bad weather forced organisers to turn to plan B, with some of the events and activities cancelled or moved indoors. However, clear skies prevailed for most of the day allowing locals and families the chance to enjoy a day packed full of activities. The free event provided open access to explore the museum and exhibits including the Best Moments on Country exhibition, to mark National Reconciliation Week 2025. The day offered guests the chance to take part in art workshops, face painting and plenty of hands-on fun for kids. Outside, the museum lawns and Museum Lane were transformed into a vibrant festival space with food vans offering a multicultural feast. Museum of Geraldton regional manager Leigh O'Brien estimated between 1500-2000 people attended and enjoyed the activities during the day. WA Day is a day of celebration for all things Western Australian, recognising the importance of Aboriginal history, the role of early European settlers and the multitude of cultures who have made, and continue to make the State their home.

Best Moments on Country: Photo exhibition celebrates culture and community for National Reconciliation Week
A powerful new exhibition titled Best Moments on Country has opened at the Museum of Geraldton, showcasing cultural pride and community creativity through stunning photography. Featuring 40 standout images from local photographers, the exhibition highlights meaningful moments on Country, capturing the connection to land, culture, and identity. The display is part of National Reconciliation Week, commemorated from May 27 to June 3, with this year's theme being Bridging Now to Next. City of Geraldton mayor Jerry Clune praised the quality of all submissions. 'This photographic display is a fantastic depiction of our local culture through the lens of our community members,' he said. 'We received nearly 100 submissions which celebrate the uniqueness of our land and people, and it's great to see the creativity of our photographers shine through. 'Reconciliation is extremely important and we're proud to welcome this event as part of National Reconciliation Week.' The exhibition opened on Friday May 9 and will be on display until Monday June 9. First and second place will be chosen by a judging panel, with winners to be announced by the city's social media throughout National Reconciliation Week. Also celebrating local voices is the Geraldton Regional Library, who will host a poetry display by author Nola Gregory from May 21 to June 4. A full calendar of National Reconciliation Week events is available on the city's website .
