Rookie Raymark Betco provided the finishing blow as the embattled De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde escaped Mapua University, 26-24, 8-25, 25-20, 25-20, to claim the bronze medal in NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball on Wednesday at the FilOil Centre.
The high-leaping opposite spiker converted the last three points for the Blazers as they salvaged a podium finish after losing twice in the Final Four round against Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
Mapua threatened a fourth-set comeback with Arjay Ramos breaking a 22-all deadlock on a down-the-line hit to give the Cardinals a one-point cushion. Benilde then turned to a youngster in Betco, who soared from the opposite side to knot things up again.
He then put the roof on Ramos to deliver the match point before destroying the two-man block of Adrian Musni and Ramos to put the seal.
Betco finished with 12 points while James Marasigan top-scored with 14 markers together with six digs and 13 receptions. Rocky Motol chipped in 10 points laced with seven digs and 17 receptions.
Ramos laced the Cardinals with 18 points on 14 attacks, two aces, and two blocks while Barbie San Andres and Olsen Jamisola chimed in with 12 and 11 markers apiece.
