Officials celebrate Duke City Ambassadors contributions to Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque officials, organizations, and community members came together Friday morning to celebrate Duke City Ambassadors for their dedication to the city. The ambassador program has been around since 2006, working to maintain the city's downtown and Nob Hill areas. UNM announces reopening date of Duck Pond The initiative also employs residents at the city's Gateway Shelter network as part of the Better Way Forward program that provides stable job opportunities for unhoused people in the city. 'It doesn't just give jobs, it gives them an opportunity. It gives them an opportunity to move forward, have some self-dignity and some self-worth, and actually create goals to be able to move forward– getting housing, even getting a cell phone, a simple cell phone,' said Deiandara Cole, Program Manager, Duke City Ambassadors. City of Albuquerque highlighting new Better Way Forward program
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Albuquerque is helping the unhoused find employment. The new Better Way Forward program works with people in the Gateway Network. The city said it has helped people get hired by the Duke City Ambassadors, which is a company that cleans and beautifies the metro. APS using new DEA curriculum to educate students about drugs 'A lot of people just need a job, some meaningful work. Gives them a paycheck and gives them everything that comes with that — whether it be the personal dignity, satisfaction or that actually funding to find things like housing, food, and so forth. And so what this program is about is taking folks who experiencing are homelessness and giving them a job to actually help our city,' said Mayor Tim Keller.
