State to put pressure on centre to increase Almatti height to 524 m, says DKS

The Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday said that the State government was trying to put pressure on the Union government to increase the height of the Almatti dam on the Krishna river to 524 metres (m), in Kolhar in Vijayapura district. 'We are putting pressure on the Central government to issue a notification to increase the dam so that it can impound more water. We have also decided to continue the necessary land acquisition process in case the proposal is approved and the areas of submergence is identified, the Major and Medium Irrigation Minister said after laying the foundation stone for several development projects. 'We have taken a decision to raise the height of dam. I have discussed this issue with the MLAs and decided to continue the land acquisition process. Recently Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and I met the concerned Union Ministers with a request to issue the notification. The Union Minister had convened a meeting also, but it was postponed due to some reasons,' he said. He said that due to the focussed development of irrigation in northern Karnataka, various districts in the region were turning to sugarcane growing districts. 'After Mandya, the districts of this region have become sugarcane bowls. We are committed to making the lives of the farmers of this region better. New factories are starting in this region and jobs are being created,'' he said. 'The opposition parties are criticising that there has been no development. That is false. We have implemented many programs for the development of the region. We have released ₹5,000 crore every year for the development of Kalyan Karnataka and ₹2,025 crore for the development of Bidar district alone. We have released water to the second crops in this area this year,' he said. He alleged that BJP governments in the past did not keep their promise. 'It did not provide even ₹5,300 crore that was announced in the Budget for the Bhadra Upper River Project. It did not support irrigation projects in northern Karnataka,'' he said. 'Some leaders of the Banjara community met me and expressed their concerns about the sub caste census and internal reservation. I want to tell them that I understand their concerns. I appeal to you no to believe in rumours. We have a strong government in the State. We will strive to ensure justice to all. There is no need to worry,' he said. He said the Congress would come to power in the next term. He appreciated the work being done by Minister Shivanand Patil in his Ministry and his district.

Have fulfilled 142 of the promises made in two years, declares CM

Hosapete: We have fulfilled 142 of the promises made during the elections, along with five guarantees, in two years. We will fulfil the rest of the promises in the next three years, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured. Speaking at the 'Samarpane Sankalpa' conference organized by the Revenue Department to mark the completion of two years of the government, distributing land titles to 111,111 people and unveiling a statue of the Iron Lady Indira Gandhi. CM Siddaramaiah said that out of the 165 promises we made as the Chief Minister for the first time, we have fulfilled 158 promises and have formulated and implemented 30 new programmes that were not announced in the manifesto. He questioned why the BJP is lying to the people and not fulfilling the promises it had made. 'Our state is a garden of peace for all races. A state that respects everyone equally. All religions should be treated equally under the Constitution. We are following this value', he said. 'We are losing money every year from the central government. If we give 4.5 lakh crores in taxes every year, we get back only 14 paise for every rupee. This is tarnishing the dignity of the federal system', he said. 'Even centrally sponsored projects have not received full funding from the Centre. The state government has given the full state share to the central projects. But the central government is doing injustice by not giving its share. You all know the injustice done to the state in the 15th financial plan. Not a single penny of the Rs 5300 crores announced for the Bhadra Upper River Project was released. They promised to declare the Bhadra Upper River Project as a national project. This too was not fulfilled.' Now JDS and BJP have come together. But BJP has never come to power on its own. Except for coming to power after Operation Kamala, BJP has never been elected by the people in the state till date, he said. BJP's commission corruption has been proven: CM The previous BJP government was accused of 40% commission. We fought against this, after coming to power, we formed the Nagamohan Das Committee to investigate. He said that the report given by the committee proved the commission business. We are giving Rs 2000 to the heads of 1.22 crore families under the Grihalakshmi scheme. We have provided facilities to 1.30 crore families under the Gruha Jyoti scheme. We have also made arrangements for free travel for women of the entire state under the Shakti scheme, he said. What is the price of gold now? The price of gold, which was Rs 10,000 in 2014, is now Rs 1 lakh. The price of gas, which was Rs 400, is now Rs 850. There is public anger against the Modi government at the Centre, which has raised the prices of diesel, petrol, oil, pulses, pulses and fertilizers to the sky, but there is public opinion in favour of our government, he said. Therefore, the programme organised by the BJP is fake, he said. The people of the state are our owners. We have acted as we promised to our owners. As long as we have your blessings, there is no question of us being afraid of the BJP's bundle of lies.

Migration of farmers has affected agriculture: CM

Belgaum: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his appreciation that farmers, teachers, soldiers are the protectors of the country. He spoke after distributing agricultural machinery and equipment worth about Rs 400 crores to farmers under the Agriculture Department subsidy. We have distributed agricultural machinery at a discount of 40 percent to farmers and 50 percent to farmers from the Scheduled Caste community. Due to the shortage of agricultural laborers, dependence on agricultural machinery has increased. Therefore, the government is distributing agricultural machinery at a discounted price, he said. We have implemented the Krishibhagya for dry farming growers. Last year, we made more than 25,000 agricultural wells. This year, it will increase even more. Experts have reported that agricultural wells are a very useful project. Now we are self-sufficient in food production. After our government came to power, we started giving 10 kg rice under the Annabhagya scheme because of you, who are food producers. Our government is spending Rs 23,000 crores on irrigation projects. Till today, the central government has not given a single paisa for the Bhadra Upper River Project. The central government is not giving its approval for the Mahadayi and Mekedatu projects. He announced that the government is ready to start all these irrigation projects immediately if the central government gives its approval.
