Jailed gangster Kaushal claims revenge hit on rival's mother in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Gangster Kaushal Chaudhary, currently lodged in Bhondsi jail, has claimed responsibility for the murder of rival gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother in Punjab's Batala. The attack, which occurred on Thursday night, also claimed the life of a key aide of Bhagwanpuria who handled operations for his gang. Harjit Kaur, Bhagwanpuria's mother, and Karanvir, son of an assistant sub-inspector, were returning from a court hearing in Tarn Taran when unidentified assailants on motorcycles pumped bullets into them near their house. While Karanvir died on the spot, Kaur succumbed to multiple bullet injuries in hospital. Shortly after the attack, a post surfaced on social media, where Haryana-based gangsters Prabhu Dasuwal and Kaushal — associated with the Bambiha gang — claimed responsibility for the killings. The post targeted Karanvir specifically, alleging he managed operations for Bhagwanpuria, such as handling fugitives, weapons, and funds. From now on, if any of our brothers are wrongfully killed, be ready to pay the price. Anyone else who speaks against us should also be ready for the worst," the post read. Police said they were yet to ascertain the veracity of the message. Kaushal (40) is no stranger to crime. With 46 criminal cases against him across Haryana and Punjab, including nine murders in Gurgaon alone, he was extradited from Dubai in 2019. Despite his incarceration, he continues to operate his criminal network from behind the bars, according to police sources. In 2018, an FIR was registered at Delhi's Rohini police station against Kaushal under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Thursday's attack, police said, appears to be a retaliation for the recent murder of Gurpreet alias Gora Bariari, an A-category gangster from the Gopi Ghanshampuria gang who was killed outside a petrol pump in Gurdaspur on May 26. The Bhagwanpuria gang was suspected to be behind that attack. The latest attack has once again brought to the fore the complex web of gang rivalries in the region. The rivalry between the Bishnoi and Bambiha gangs, as well as Kaushal's faction, has escalated over time. Once considered close allies, Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria became adversaries following a clash at Tarn Taran jail in Feb 2023. Bhagwanpuria was subsequently moved to a prison in Assam, while Bishnoi was shifted to a Gujarat jail. In 2022, the Bishnoi and Kaushal gangs fought over control of the lucrative liquor trade in Gurgaon, leading to shootings intended at avenging earlier killings of each other's associates. Additionally, Kaushal was named in the murder of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera in Mohali in Aug 2021. The Bishnoi gang later avenged Middukhera's killing by shooting Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala dead. Kaushal was also accused of masterminding the 2022 murder of international kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambian. Police said investigations were underway to trace the network that sustained these gangs, focusing on how members coordinated from behind the bars. "We have intensified efforts to address issues such as firearms inside jails and retaliatory strikes," an official said.

Last Updated: Harjit Kaur, the mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Punjab's Batala on Thursday. Harjit Kaur, the mother of jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by unidentified assailants on a motorcycle in Punjab's Batala on Thursday evening, triggering shock and panic in the area. The gangster's mother and a person identified as Karanveer Singh were going somewhere in a Scorpio car at around 9:30 pm on Qadian Road, when three bike-borne assailants opened fire on the car. Karanveer died on the spot, while Harjit Kaur was taken to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Davinder Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the killings. 'Unidentified men on a motorcycle intercepted their car and opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene. A case has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to track down the culprits," DSP Batala Paramveer Singh stated. Who Is Jaggu Bhagwanpuria? Jagdeep Singh, aka Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, is one of Punjab's most notorious gangsters, who was recently detained under the PTI-NDPS Act and is currently in the custody of the Punjab police in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. A resident of Punjab's Gurdaspur, Bhagwanpuria is named in 128 cases related to murder, extortion, drug and arms smuggling and gang violence. In March this year, Bhagwanpuria was airlifted from Bathinda Central Jail to Silchar jail in Assam amid high security. During the investigation, the police found out that Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's far-reaching network extended to the United States, Canada and Pakistan as well. As per reports, Bhagwanpuria is also believed to be the mentor of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat. Bishnoi is believed to run his gang from behind bars by communicating through illicit phones. The attack on Bhagwanpuria's mother has been reported as the result of an ongoing gang war, as an account named 'Gopi Ghanshyampuria' claimed responsibility on behalf of the Davinder Bambiha gang. The gang said Karanveer Singh was the intended target as he ran the operations for Bhagwanpuria's gang. Police Form Teams To Nab Accused Punjab police have formed several teams to nab the accused, and a case has been registered. The police are currently pursuing several leads, including the possibility of this being an act of gang retaliation linked to Bhagwanpuria's criminal network. Authorities have heightened security in the area and appealed to the public for any information that could help track the shooters. Notably, Harjit Kaur was a former elected member of the village panchayat in Bhagwanpur, where the family hails from. Her death has raised concerns about the escalating gang rivalry in Punjab. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav earlier announced the arrest of five members of the Bhagwanpuria and Amritpal Batth gangs. Police claimed to have foiled a planned target killing and seized multiple weapons — including a US-made Glock 9mm pistol and .32 bore firearms — allegedly supplied through Bhagwanpuria's channels. Harjit Kaur sustained multiple bullet injuries and was declared brought dead at the hospital. Police have since launched a search operation. Jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother Harjit Kaurand his cousin Karanvir Singh was shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Batala town of Gurdaspur district on Thursday night. A search is on for the unidentified assailants, who opened fire on the two from close range when they were in an SUV parked outside their rented house in the Civil Lines area at 9.07pm before fleeing, the police said. Bhagwanpuria's rival Davinder Bambiha gang claimed responsibility for the attack via a social media post, stating that Karanvir was the intended target. In an unverified social media post shortly after the attack, a user identifying himself as Dony Bal Manga claimed responsibility, saying he along with Prabh Dasuwal and Kaushal Chaudhary (both from Haryana) had avenged the killing of a member of their gang, Gora Bariar. The post alleged that Harjit Kaur and Karanvir had been managing the criminal operations of Bhagwanpuria. Batala deputy superintendent of police Paramveer Singh said both the victims sustained bullet injuries on the face, chest, and stomach. Harjit Kaur was rushed to the local civil hospital from where she was referred to a hospital in Amritsar, but succumbed to the bullet injuries. Karanvir, who is the son of a Punjab Police assistant sub inspector, was declared dead at the Batala civil hospital. The DSP said a case has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the killers. 'We are investigating the motive behind the incident,' he said. Harjit Kaur, who belongs to Bhagwanpur village, was elected as the sarpanch during the previous Congress regime. She was active in the Congress but before the Dera Baba Nanak assembly byelections last year, she joined the Aam Aadmi Party. On Cam: Jailed Gangster Bhagwanpuria's Mother Shot Dead In Punjabs Batala

New Delhi: Harjit Kaur, mother of notorious jailed gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants in Batala town, Punjab, on Thursday night. Bhagwanpuria is also an accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. According to police, Kaur was traveling in an SUV when the assailants opened fire near her house in the Urban Estate area, also killing her driver, Karanvir Singh. She was rushed to a hospital in Amritsar but succumbed to her injuries. The Bambiha gang has claimed responsibility for the crime. The news is from Batala in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. It is being told that last night Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother was travelling in a car and had stopped somewhere. Then some gangsters came from behind and fired bullets in quick succession. — Team SCB #Citizen_Media (@1SanatanSatya) June 27, 2025 The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Bhagwanpuria under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. In March, he was shifted from the high-security Bathinda Central Jail to Silchar Jail in Assam as authorities were suspecting that detained gangsters were running drug syndicates from Punjab's prisons. Bhagwanpuria, against whom 128 FIRs have been registered in Punjab and other states, was arrested in a murder case in 2015 and, since then, has been lodged in several jails, previously in Punjab. In the singer Moosewala's murder case, it was Bhagwanpuria and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who had hatched a conspiracy to kill him. However, later, both fell apart. Bhagwanpuria, a native of Gurdaspur district, is considered the most dreaded gangster of Punjab after Bishnoi and has more than five cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for hatching conspiracies to disturb communal harmony in Punjab. He is facing 15 cases of arms and drug smuggling. On his shifting to Assam, the NCB had said then that Bhagwanpuria was moved out of Punjab as he had 'established linkages' with international operatives in Canada, the US, and Pakistan. His relocation was a must to disrupt the ecosystem, facilitating continued criminal activities, it added.
