Helpline launched for dairy farmers
Dairy Development Minister T. Mano Thangaraj on Wednesday said Aavin was aiming to serve consumers while providing a steady income to dairy farmers. It procures 36.50 lakh litres a day from 3.8 lakh farmers and sells 30.02 lakh litres of milk a day.
He said under the able leadership of Chief Minister Stalin, there had been a steady growth in milk procurement in the last four years. 'We are taking steps to increase the quantum of sale of milk in cities. At the same time, there can be no compromise in quality. We will take strict action against those indulging in malpractices,' he added.
He launched a toll-free helpline for dairy farmers in the State — 1800-425-2577. Those in need of help from veterinarians can call this number, which is being manned by IndusInd Bank Limited (IBL) and Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited (BFIL) — a wholly owned subsidiary of IBL — under the Bharat Sanjeevani programme of BFIL.
Animal Husbandry Secretary N. Subbian and Aavin Managing Director A. Annathurai were present on the occasion.
