As of August 10, 2023, for the 2023-2024 academic year, CMS had an enrollment of 61,345 students across its 21 campuses. This makes it the largest school in the world, according to Guinness World Records.
Here are five interesting facts about this extraordinary school:
1. It has over 60,000 students: City Montessori School is an English-medium co-educational school. It has more than 60,000 students and over 1,000 teachers and staff members. The school is spread across several campuses in the city.
2. Founded 65 years ago: CMS was founded in the year 1959 by Dr. Bhargavi Devi and Dr. Jagdish Gandhi. Their goal was to provide quality education to children, and over the years, the school has grown massively in size and reputation.
3. Wide range of subjects and activities: Students at CMS study all the main subjects like Science, Maths, English, Hindi, Social Studies, and Arts. But the school also gives importance to extra activities like sports, music, dance, and drama. These activities help students grow in every way.
4. Recognized by Guinness World Records: Because of its massive student population, City Montessori School holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest school in the world by the number of students.

The motto of the school is Jai Jagat ('victory to the world') based on the ancient wisdom of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam (the whole earth is my family) and inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and social reformer Sant Vinobha Bhave.
The school has been affiliated with the Delhi-based Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) which offers the ICSE (class 10) and ISC (class 12) qualifications. In addition, it is also affiliated with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) UK, which offers the iGCSE (class 10) and A-Level (class 12) qualifications. Of the 21 campuses of CMS, four campuses go upto grade 8 and are recognized by the Basic Education Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
