Daksh Tayaliya, a Bengaluru boy and a student of Shri Ram Global School, Old Madras Road has secured 15 Common Rank List (CRL) of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay zone and emerged as a State topper in JEE (Advanced) 2025. Daksh wants to pursue Computer Science Engineering in IIT, Bombay. He told The Hindu, 'It was really challenging, but I'm very happy that I could make it. I would definitely thank my coaching centre, my parents, and my faculty who were with me during two years of my JEE preparation.' 'I started preparation for JEE since my class 10. I used to score well in every mock test at the coaching centre. I used to attend online and offline classes every day. Also, I used to do three to four mock tests every week. So, it helped me score well in JEE (Advanced). I did not write the CET,' he said. Bhavesh Jayanthi, from Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, Bengaluru, and the topper of the CET in the Engineering stream, managed to secure CRL 35 and emerged as the second topper of the State. Kushagra Gupta, who scored 100 percentile marks in JEE (Mains Session 1 & 2) 2025 and a student from Narayana Co-Kaveri Bhavan, Kasavanahalli, Bengaluru has got CRL 49 in JEE (Advanced) 2025. Bhavesh Jayanthi is setting his eyes on Computer Science or Electrical engineering at IIT Bombay. Bhavesh's strategy included a consistent and disciplined approach in academics and made it a point to ask questions whenever in doubt. 'I concentrated on lectures and made sure I studied daily,' he added. Kushagra emphasised that continuous tests aided him to crack the exam and identify the weak areas. His journey faced consistent low marks at differing stages. 'I kept pulling myself as if there was no other option,' he added. He aims for IIT Bombay hoping to pursue Computer Science. Further, he is hoping to venture into Mathematical research. 'Focus on the present rather than looking at the end result,' he stated. CBSE students dominate KCET results

BENGALURU: CBSE students showed a strong performance while the overall eligibility for various professional courses registered a noticeable dip in the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET)-2025 results announced by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Saturday. Of the total 3,11,991 candidates who appeared this year, more than 2.75 lakh passed, bringing the total pass percentage to 88.36. Among the top 10 rank holders in the engineering stream, seven were from CBSE schools. Bhavesh Jayanthi from Bengaluru secured the first rank in engineering and also emerged as the second topper in Pharma-D. The second and third ranks were bagged by Satwik B Biradar and Dhinesh Gowthami Shankar Arunachalam, respectively, both from Bengaluru schools. Despite the high-ranking performances, this year saw a decline in the number of students eligible for admissions across most courses. For engineering courses, 2,62,195 students qualified this year, compared to 2.75 lakh last year. A similar dip was observed in other streams -- in Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS), 1,98,679 became eligible this year against 2.19 lakh in 2024 while in BSc (Hons) Agriculture, 2,14,588 were eligible in 2025 compared to 2.15 lakh in 2024. Higher Education Minister Dr MC Sudhakar, who released the results, attributed the overall drop in eligibility to the lower pass percentage among 2nd PUC science students this year. 'This naturally reflects in the number of students qualifying for KCET-based admissions,' he added.

CBSE students dominate KCET top ranks

Higher Education Minister M.C. Sudhakar announced the results of the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2025 on Saturday, and students from Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) dominated the top ranks. Announcing the results at the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) office here on Saturday, the Minister said, 'One grace mark has been awarded in physics and biology, for one question, two answers have been considered. In chemistry, two answers for two questions were considered.' 'KEA is ready for counselling, but we will wait for the NEET results to be announced,' he added. In the engineering stream, of the top 10 rankers, seven were from CBSE and three from the State's Pre-University board. This was the same case in veterinary and BSc Nursing. In Pharma-D and B-Pharma, 8 toppers were from CBSE and two from State board colleges. In BSc (Agri), State students managed to secure the top nine ranks. In Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, five students from both the boards secured ranks in the top 10. Students who secured the top ten ranks in all the streams were from colleges either in Bengaluru or Mangaluru. Bhavesh Jayanthi, from Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, Bengaluru, secured 99.06% and emerged as the topper in the engineering stream. Satwik B. Biradar, from Chaitanya Techno School. Uttarahalli. Bengaluru stood second with 98.83% and the third topper was Dhinesh Gomathi Shankar Arunachalam, also from Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, with 98.67%. Harishraj D.V., who bagged first ranks in BVSc (Veterinary), Nursing, and Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Science (BNYS), was from Narayana E-Techno School, Yelahanka, Bengaluru. He also got sixth rank in BSc (Agriculture). In BSc (Agriculture), Akshay M. Hegde from Alva's PU college, Moodbidri, and Saish Sharavan Pandit and Suchith P. Prasad from Expert PU college, Mangaluru have secured first, second and third ranks respectively. Aathreya Venkatachalam is the topper in B-Pharma and Pharma-D course with 91.11% He secured second rank in Nursing and BNYS courses. Meanwhile, changing the trend, the boys managed to outshine girls by securing most top ranks. In all the streams, all the top ten ranks were bagged by boys except in BSc (Agri) where Sneha I. Yaraganavi secured rank 5. This year, a total of 2,75,677 students cleared CET: 2,62,195 in engineering stream, 1,98,679 for BNYS, 2,14,588 for BSc (Agri), 2,18,282 for BVSc, 2,66,256 for B-Pharma, 2,66,757 for Pharma-D, and 2,08,171 eligible for BSc Nursing course. Decreased eligibility Compared to the previous year, the number of students eligible for admission to engineering courses has reduced. In CET-2024, a total of 2.75 lakh students were eligible for engineering and this time the same has come down to 2,62,195. This trend is similar in all the other streams. Dr. Sudhakar said it is mainly because of the dip in science pass percentage in the II PUC exams. 'Compared to last year, the number of students cleared the II PUC science stream has witnessed a dip and that has impacted on the CET eligibility,' he stated. In 2024, as many as 2,46,744 cleared II PU Science stream in annual exam-1, but this year, that number has dipped to 2,31,461 in annual exam 1 and in annual exam-2, around 18000 cleared science stream, but not all registered for CET. Wrong entry by 10,000 students Despite creating awareness, at least 10,000 students have entered wrong data which delayed the results. For those who have not received their CET results because of errors in the entries, KEA will provide a link to upload the marks from May 26 and spot ranks will be issued to such students. Helpline Considering the increase in calls to the helpline and complaints about not addressing the calls properly, the KEA has extended the helpline from 8 am to 8 pm on all seven days, including holidays.
