Amit Shah to lay foundation stone for National Forensic Science University tomorrow
Nagpur: Union home minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the Nagpur campus of the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) at Kamptee on Monday, marking a major milestone in Maharashtra's efforts to become a hub for forensic science education. As first reported by TOI on Jan 15, the Nagpur campus, located on a 50-acre site in Mouza Chicholi, will be NFSU's tenth across India and the second in Maharashtra after Pune. The permanent campus is expected to be ready within two years. Until then, the university will operate from a temporary campus at Nagpur University's building near the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), currently housing the Police Bharosa Cell. This facility has two vacant floors that will be repurposed for NFSU's academic and research activities. Amit Shah will also inaugurate the temporary campus virtually. "This new campus will strengthen forensic research and innovation, equipping students with specialised skills crucial for law enforcement and cyber investigations," said a home ministry spokesperson. The Nagpur campus will offer courses such as MSc in Forensic Science, MSc in Cyber Journalism, and a Professional Diploma in Crime Scene Management. Online admissions for the first academic session started on March 18, with applications closing on May 5. The initiative aligns with the growing demand for forensic experts across India, aiming to nurture professionals for careers in law enforcement, criminal justice, and beyond. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, then chief minister of Gujarat, established the NFSU in 2009 to develop skilled professionals in forensic sciences. The Gandhinagar-based university currently operates campuses in Delhi, Bhopal, Goa, Tripura, Pune, Guwahati, Manipur, Dharwad, and Uganda, with new campuses planned in Raipur, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, and Jaipur. The establishment of the Nagpur campus is expected to bolster Vidarbha's educational landscape and enhance India's forensic capabilities, supporting the region's aspirations to emerge as a knowledge hub. Bhumi puja performed for revival of Venkateswara Swamy temple
Banaganapalle: The historic Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple located in Kondapeta at Banaganapalle town is all set for a grand revival, with the foundation stone for its reconstruction laid on Sunday in a solemn and spiritual ceremony. Roads and Buildings Minister BC Janardhan Reddy and his wife, BC Indira Reddy, participated in the auspicious Bhoomi Puja performed as per Vedic traditions, amid chants by scholars and priests. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Janardhan Reddy emphasized that the construction and rejuvenation of temples strengthen spiritual and devotional fervor in society. He announced that the temple's reconstruction project, estimated at Rs.6 crore, is now formally underway. Previously, under the aegis of the Sri Vani Trust, approximately Rs.27.50 lakh had been collected from donors, with matching grants intended to support the initial reconstruction plan worth Rs.1.85 crore. Though there were plans to rebuild the sanctum sanctorum and the inner hall, the project stalled due to a lack of funds and other delays. To ensure the completion of this noble cause, transcending political affiliations, fresh efforts were initiated to revive the temple reconstruction. The Minister stated that with the cooperation of Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, additional funding was secured. Under this initiative, in the first phase, Rs.3.10 crore was sanctioned by the Endowments Department for works including the main entrance hall, a three-storey Rajagopuram (temple tower), and granite flooring — of which Rs 31 lakh has already been allocated. In the second phase, another Rs.3.10 crore was approved administratively for the construction of the compound wall, with an additional Rs.31 lakh matching grant contributed personally by Minister Janardhan Reddy, bringing his total contribution through matching grants to Rs 62 lakh. Furthermore, BC Indira Reddy generously donated six cents of land, valued at Rs.50 lakh, for the temple's reconstruction, which she purchased using her personal funds. The Minister assured that the reconstruction works will be expedited to ensure that devotees in Banaganapalle town can soon have the divine opportunity of Sri Venkateswara Swamy's darshan. The event was held in the presence of temple committee members, Endowments Department officials, and a large gathering of local residents, marking a significant milestone in the town's spiritual and cultural heritage.

The Young India Integrated Residential Schools being established by the Telangana government based on the concept of egalitarian education will set new benchmarks in the realm of education, making Telangana role model for the entire country, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said on Saturday. As many as 105 Young India Integrated Residential Schools are being set up in the State with an outlay of Rs 21,000 crore, he said, adding that the main objective of these schools is to create exceptional human resources for society through outstanding intellectual development. He was speaking after performing Bhoomi Puja for the Young India Integrated Residential School at Laxmipuram village in Bonakal mandal of Khammam district on Saturday. He said, 'These schools are being established as a brand of the Telangana government to provide quality education of international standards to lakhs of students and to groom them with extraordinary wisdom to enable them compete globally.' He also slammed the previous BRS regime, accusing it of failing to implement its much-touted promise to provide free education from KG to PG during its nearly decade-long rule. Earlier, the School Teachers' Federation (STF) State president Devarakonda Saidulu and leaders of BC Employees' Association felicitated Mr. Vikramarka at a programme in Khammam. The leaders of the BC Association said that the caste census offers a solution to the centuries-old suppression of BCs.

Basava Jayanti celebrated with floral tributes, grand procession, bike rally in Ballari
Basava Jayanti was celebrated with great fervour in Ballari on Wednesday, marked by a series of events, including a bike rally in the morning, floral tributes to the 12th-century social reformer and a vibrant cultural procession in the evening. The celebrations were organised under the joint auspices of the district administration, the Zilla Panchayat, the Department of Kannada and Culture and the Ballari City Municipal Corporation. Floral tributes The formal celebrations began with dignitaries offering floral tributes to Basaveshwara's statue near H.R. Gaviappa Circle in the city. Deputy Commissioner Prashanth Kumar Mishra led the homage, garlanding the statue and honouring the philosopher-statesman. He urged the public to embrace Basaveshwara's timeless ideals of equality, humanism and social reform and extended his greetings on the occasion of his jayanti. Bike rally Earlier in the day, a bike rally was held across major roads in the city, led by Ballari Rural MLA B. Nagendra and Ballari City MLA Nara Bharath Reddy. Participants paid floral respects at the statue of Basaveshwara following the ride. Prior to the rally, a Bhoomi Puja (groundbreaking ceremony) was performed at Basaveshwara Circle for the construction of a grand new statue of Basaveshwara, estimated at a cost of ₹1.5 crore. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Mayor Mullangi Nandeesh, Chairman of Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Leather Industries Development Corporation Mundargi Nagaraj, municipal members and community leaders. Cultural procession In the evening, a grand cultural procession was flagged off by Mr Mullangi Nandeesh on the Municipal College Grounds off Dr. Rajkumar Road. The procession made its way through key parts of the city — Gadigi Channappa Circle, Bengaluru Road, Old Brucepet Police Station Road and Theru Beedi —before concluding at the Dr. Joladarashi Doddanagowda Rangamandira where a stage programme was held later in the evening. The procession showcased Karnataka's rich cultural heritage with performances of Veeragase, Kamsale, Dollu Kunitha and Tashe Randol by various folk troupes. Departmental tableaux and placards depicting the life and messages of Basaveshwara added to the visual and educational appeal of the event. The celebrations saw the enthusiastic participation of officials, cultural leaders, community members and citizens from all walks of life.
