Hooda & Surjewala hit out at BJP govt in Haryana, say state under ‘gunda raj'
Chandigarh: With threats and shootouts for ransom continuing to plague Haryana, Congress leaders Bhupinder Hooda and Randeep Surjewala on Saturday criticised CM Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP govt by stating that the state was under "gunda raj".
The two leaders cited examples of ransom calls made to traders in Yamunanagar, murders of liquor vend contractors in Kurukshetra, Jind, and other places, and threats and shootouts targetting liquor traders and other traders in NCR. "This is the reason why goons and miscreants are fearlessly committing crimes, and people are3 forced to live in fear. BJP is itself in a drunken sleep of power and is directly and indirectly protecting such crime," he said.
In Rohtak, miscreants fired at a liquor shop and posted a video on Instagram recently. A ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from a businessman in Hansi, there was firing at a toll plaza, bullets were also fired at a fertiliser shop, and a ransom of Rs 50 lakh was demanded from a factory owner, he said. A liquor contractor was shot dead in Kurukshetra, and a person was murdered two days after he was threatened in Pinjore.
Surjewala cited incidents in Narwana, Kurukshetra, and Yamunanagar, where gangsters targeted traders. He gave examples of Naraingarh, where two shootings for ransom were reported, and the cases remain unsolved. "This is the reason that whenever the BJP comes to power, hooliganism is established in the state. Earlier, when the BJP and INLD govt was in power from 2000 to 2005, there was similar hooliganism and mafia rule in Haryana," he added.
