Representative image BELAGAVI: Five individuals, including two minors, were detained in an overnight operation on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl over a six-month period in the district. B elagavi City police commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase told reporters Sunday that the survivor and the accused are from Belagavi. He said the assault began six months ago when one of the accused, known to the girl, allegedly lured her to a hilly area on the outskirts of Belagavi city. There, she was raped by the six accused. The six accused recorded the incident on a phone camera, and used the video to blackmail her. They allegedly raped her at multiple locations in the next six months. Pocso case was registered Based on a complaint filed by the survivor on Saturday, Belagavi police nabbed five of the six accused in a swift operation from Saturday evening to Sunday noon. They are looking for the six accused, now absconding. The case was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the APMC police station of Belagavi. Three weeks ago, three persons, including two minors, one of whom was the son of a police officer, were arrested in connection with the rape of another minor girl at a farmhouse on the Belagavi's outskirts. Belagavi: The state govt has transferred the case of alleged burning of Quran, stolen from a mosque in Santibastawad village, on the outskirts of Belagavi, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Addressing the media here on Sunday, Belagavi' new police commissioner, Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, said the case of alleged burning of the holy book in Santibastawad village was handed over to the CID for further investigation. "Considering the sensitivity, the case was transferred to the CID, and I have instructed the officials to hand over the documents to the CID. We will cooperate with the CID officials and find the accused at the earliest," said Borase. He also assured of increasing police patrolling in rural areas of the city to prevent crime. On May 11, tensions arose in Santibastawad after unidentified miscreants reportedly stole and burned religious books from a mosque under construction. One copy of the Quran and two Hadit books were allegedly stolen from the mosque and found burnt in a nearby field the next day. Five special teams were formed to investigate the alleged desecration, but police are yet to nab the accused. Protests erupted in Belagavi seeking immediate action and the arrest of those responsible.
