Green Fingers Are In: Fashion Is Delighting in the Garden

Floating around London's Chelsea Flower Show as dusk is about to fall, the air is thick, the herbal scents of salvia and geranium offset by the minty nepeta and the flouncing citrus sucker punch of verbana. If you're lucky, you'll get a quick hit of the just-debuted Catherine's Rose, a coral-pink floribunda rose named after the Princess of Wales, which smells of mango and Turkish delight. Amid the floral pavilions and hulking vegetative displays, and past the Pimm's stall, Burberry has brought together the fashion crowd to celebrate its latest collection, itself inspired by the Royals. It's not haute couture, it's hort(-iculture) couture. Here, at the world's most prestigious gardening and floral design event, the British house welcomed the likes of Bianca Jagger, Jason Isaacs, and Jerry Hall to a dinner for the launch of its fourth Highgrove x Burberry collaboration. The collection takes cues from the lush gardens that surround the Cotswolds-set private residence of the British King Charles III and Queen Camilla. It includes tailored pieces and knitwear, silk scarves, pajama-like separates, and the house's classic trench coats, all featuring hand-drawn prints by artist Helen Bullock, who created the works based on the colorful scenes of Highgrove's Kitchen Garden. (Several fashion brands hold a Royal Warrant—basically, a special designation that allows them to use the royal arms to show they're monarchy-approved—with Burberry holding its own since 1955.) 'Burberry has a deep appreciation for British places and landscapes,' says Carly Eck, a curator and archivist at Burberry. 'There are many synergies between Burberry and Highgrove, notably in supporting British artists, respecting nature, and championing UK craft and manufacturing.' Photo: Courtesy of Burberry Photo: Courtesy of Burberry The last few seasons have seen fashion locked in an intense love affair with food—from Moschino's pasta bag to A.P.C.'s olive oil, and the 'tomato girls' of TikTok storming the coastal towns of Italy in broderie anglaise and fruit-printed head scarves. But fashion has long rooted around the garden for inspiration. Last June, Loewe quite literally said: When life gives you tomatoes, make a viral It bag. After a popular tweet compared the fruit to a Loewe design, Jonathan Anderson posted the tweet to his personal Instagram account—and later revealed the prototype for a tomato-shaped clutch bag. ('Meme to reality,' he captioned it.) Last year, Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior Cruise 2025 collection reveled in Scottish Highlands-ready tweeds and tartans in a show staged at Drummond Castle in Perthshire. Longchamp's summer 2025 collection, the earth and grassy-toned 'Live Green,' found its inspiration in the pastoral picnic settings of the French countryside. While bold floral motifs proliferate from Dolce & Gabbana to Marc Jacobs, smaller brands have long laid their own (flower) beds: Gardenheir was founded by two avid gardeners, with Martha Stewart-inspired straw hats, actual gardening tools, and clogs that attract the real heads and aesthetic gardeners alike. And Niwaki is a fashionable gardener's fave, a garden tool shop, run by a former buyer for Paul Smith, that has collaborated with Ulla Johnson and streetwear brand Noah.

Mick Jagger's exes Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger prove their friendship is still going strong as they pose at Burberry's Chelsea Flower Show event

Mick Jagger 's exes Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger proved their friendship is still going strong as they posed together at an event. The pair were both in attendance at Burberry 's RHS Chelsea Flower Show bash on Tuesday night in London. Bianca was married to Rolling Stones rocker Mick, 81, from 1971–1978 while Jerry was his long-term partner with whom she has four children. At the party Bianca, 80, dressed appropriately in a flower patterned light blue silk co-ord. She wore her dark tresses in a bouncy blow dried look and opted for a pop of colour with a red lip. Jerry, 68, meanwhile looked great in a green flowery dress which she wore with a dark coat and glittery shades. Mick started seeing Jerry while he was still married to Bianca, whom he had his first child with, Jade. Jerry reportedly inspired the Rolling Stones' classic song Miss You. Divorcing Bianca in 1978 and then tying the knot with Jerry twelve years later in 1990, the rock legend went on to have four more children. However history soon repeated itself, and allegations of numerous Jagger infidelities helped drive the couple apart for good. Mick and Jerry split up in 1999. Mick is now in a relationship with fiancée Melanie Hamrick but last month she revealed they are in no hurry to marry. Giving an unprecedented look into her relationship with the rock star, the former ballerina, 37, also said they will move to London permanently next year so they can enrol their eight-year-old son, Deveraux, in school. Melanie confirmed she has been engaged to Jagger for two-three years in an interview with Paris Match when asked how long she has been wearing her engagement ring. And talking of marriage, she said: 'Maybe one day, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything. I don't know what to call it, maybe simply happiness.' The secret to their happiness, she claims is supporting each other and being there for each other. Melanie and Mick met in Tokyo in February 2014 when the Stones were on tour. At the time, the rock star was in a long-term relationship with fashion designer L'Wren Scott, who died by suicide in March that year. She says it wasn't love at first sight, as she quipped: 'Maybe a spark, but nothing incredible like: 'I'll make you lose your mind, and we'll travel the world!' We didn't even exchange phone numbers.' Melanie recalled that Mick was in a relationship at the time so they only spoke again five months after that, thanks to a mutual acquaintance who gave him her number. The rocker sent her a text message asking whether she'd like to have coffee together, which led to them meeting again in Zurich. Melanie recalled an early memory from childhood, saying: 'My mum would also sometimes hum "I can't get no satisfaction" when I asked for an ice cream I hadn't earned. I would reply, "stop mum, it's so boring".' Her penchant for older men preceded her relationship with the famous rock star. When she was 19, she started dating Cuban dancer José Manuel Carreño, who was 38 at the time. Melanie insisted she doesn't care what people say or think about her 44-year age gap with Mick because she's happy, healthy, and not hurting anyone.

From Zendaya to Kerry Washington, Bianca Jagger and Her Iconic White Suit Was a Major Met Gala 2025 Reference

With the Met Gala 2025 theme and the celebration of 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' we had already predicted that it was going to be a red carpet full of sleek tailoring and major, opulent details. What we didn't anticipate was the spirit of Bianca Jagger through some of the evening's women's looks. It all started with the appearance of Zendaya, who was styled by image architect Law Roach, in a snatched white Louis Vuitton suit by Pharrell Williams. She was then followed by Kerry Washington in a sophisticated Jonathan Simkhai design, and finally, Anna Sawai in a nipped-in Dior ensemble. One of the most iconic couples of the 1970s, of course, was Bianca Jagger and Mick Jagger. The Nicaraguan socialite married the Rolling Stones musician just nine months after meeting at a rock concert in France. They wed at a Saint Tropez registry office, where the bona fide style icon bride wore an outfit by French couturier Yves Saint Laurent, consisting of a tailored jacket, a midi skirt, and platform sandals. She topped off her bridal look with a wide-brimmed hat and a short veil that fell delicately and sheerly over her face. That look would become iconic and heavily referenced across fashion and pop culture for decades to come.

She's in her bridal era. The newly engaged 'Dune: Part Two' star, 28, stunned fans Monday night when she arrived at the 2025 Met Gala in a white silk three-piece Pharrell-designed Louis Vuitton suit — complete with a dramatic wide-brimmed hat and her eye-popping 5.02-carat diamond engagement ring from Tom Holland. While her head-turning look was very much on theme for this year's 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' dress code, fashionistas quickly clocked a second reference: Bianca Jagger's iconic 1971 wedding suit worn when she married Mick Jagger. 5 Zendaya wowed at the 2025 Met Gala in a cream silk Louis Vuitton suit, topped with a wide-brimmed hat and her dazzling 5.02-carat ring from Tom Holland. And though Roach, 46, didn't join Zendaya on the carpet — a first in years — the stylist made it clear he was behind the bridal callback, posting side-by-sides of Bianca and Zendaya on his Instagram story with no caption necessary. Fans were quick to make the same connection — and lose their minds. 5 Law Roach confirmed the bridal nod, posting side-by-sides of Bianca Jagger and Zendaya on his Instagram story — no caption needed. Another echoed the sentiment: 'ZENDAYA!!! very reminiscent of bianca jagger's 70s suits and tailored to perfection.' 5 Styled by Law Roach, Zendaya's bridal-chic look echoed Bianca Jagger with flared pants, a sharp blazer, white tie, and a sweeping wide-brim hat.
