Protests are being organized in Tennessee and across the nation as President Donald Trump plans to celebrate his birthday with a speech after the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary parade on June 14. The protests, including one Nashville, are being billed as "No Kings" protests that denounce the organizer's belief in Trump's show of authoritarianism. The organizer, a group that calls itself Indivisible, has partnered with dozens of advocacy groups to mobilize. Protests are expected to happen in more than 20 Tennessee cities, including Clarksville, Gallatin, Nashville and Murfreesboro in Middle Tennessee. There are about 2,000 protests under the "No Kings" label scheduled nationwide, according to USA Today. Follow along here for live updates on the Nashville protest. Over 500 demonstrators lined Jefferson street along Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park Saturday morning for the Nashville No Kings protest. A relaxed police presence bracketed energetic crowds shouting ,'This is what democracy looks like' and 'Donald Trump has got to go,' while brandishing a creative range of homemade signs and upside down American flags. Few counter protesters were present at the beginning of the demonstration. The nationwide network of 'No Kings' protests are set to start soon, with around 2,000 scheduled to being at 10 a.m. across the country in response to the Trump administration's overall policies and large-scale military parade that will occur Saturday evening. Twenty-six 'No Kings' protests are slated to occur across Tennessee. The protests will be facing already-wet conditions and additional consistent rain, with the Nashville Weather Service forecasting steady showers and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. According to NWS, yesterday's rainfall across the county brings Nashville's year-to-date total to 33.35 inches, which is '8.77 inches above normal' so far for 2025. According to the weather service, it's the 10th wettest start to the year through June 12 in Nashville's history, and the wettest since 1979.
