‘It's more of a mercy killing than an axing': Channel 10 preparing to announce new current affairs program to replace The Project
TV industry insiders have made grave predictions about the future of Ten's flagship current affairs program The Project amid reports the show will end in the coming months. Produced by Rove McManus' Roving Enterprises, the weeknight current affairs show first hit Aussie screens in 2009 and has been a mainstay of the network's primetime line up. According to TV insider Peter Ford, The Project 'won't last' until the end of 2025. "I don't think The Project will see the year out," Ford told 3AW Breakfast on Friday. "Quite frankly at the moment, it's more of a mercy killing than an axing." The series' original panel consisted of Carrie Bickmore, Charlie Pickering and Dave Hughes but its most well-known line up was arguably Bickmore, Peter Helliar, Waleed Aly and Hamish McDonald. It was this era that saw The Project and its hosts pick up a trophy case of Logie wins, including Gold Logies for Bickmore in 2015 and Aly in 2016. Bickmore and Helliar left the Melbourne-based show in 2022 amid reported budget cuts and declining viewership at the free-to-air broadcaster. The struggling program currently features a rotating line up of regular presenters including Aly, Sarah Harris, Sam Taunton and Georgie Tunny from Sunday to Friday. Meanwhile, industry website TV Blackbox is reporting a new show is being shaped to only air four nights a week — Monday to Thursday — to replace The Project by August. The new show will reportedly run for just 30 minutes as opposed to The Project's current one-hour timeslot. It is understood Ten will be broadcasting the new show from Sydney to save on costs and already broadcasts The Project from Sydney on Sundays. The update comes days after it was revealed Ten has wooed several prominent journalists away from rival Seven with generous salary bumps. Among the shiny new names at Ten are ex-Spotlight producer and Sunday Night reporter Denham Hitchcock and former Seven correspondent Amelia Brace. has reached out to Channel 10 for comment.

Fans shocked by ex-TV star's weird way of serving dinner
Carrie Bickmore has stirred up bewilderment among fans after sharing the bizarre way she serves spaghetti bolognese to her children. The radio presenter took to Instagram with a video serving up the popular Italian dish her way. In the clip, the mum of two placed sheets of baking paper on the table and poured bolognese sauce on top of a pile of cooked spaghetti before garnishing the meal with a generous helping of parmesan cheese. Bickmore revealed that she had drawn inspiration from another Instagram user and her children thought it was 'weird' but ended up loving it. Carrie Bickmore's unusual spag bol plating - or lack there of. Credit: Supplied 'I was inspired by a random post on Insta and thought I'd be a fun mum too and let the kids just eat in a more relaxed manner,' she told followers. 'They loved it (thought it was so weird!) but loved it. And given I put baking paper underneath, the clean up was easier than washing plates!!!!' Bickmore's followers were humoured but her Italian fans were not. 'The souls of our nonnas just entered our bodies and screeched in deep pain and agony,' Australian comedy troupe Sooshi Mango declared. 'I can hear my Nonnas and their Nonnas writhing in agony in this new circle of hell designed for Italians!' Italian chef Silvia Colloca asserted. 'My nonna just re-alived and gasped,' a third user chimed in. Just days ago, the beloved radio host made a public appeal for donations to Carries Beanies 4 Brain Cancer. On Saturday, Bickmore marked the 10-year anniversary of launching her campaign to raise funds for Brain Cancer during her Gold Logie acceptance speech. In her address, she donned a blue beanie with her glamorous ball gown and paid tribute to her late husband Greg, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and tragically lost his 10-year battle in 2010. Since launching the campaign, Bickmore has raised $25 million.

Tommy Little fuels romance rumours with Hit Network co-star Carrie Bickmore after making major lifestyle change for her cause
Tommy Little has continued to fuel romance rumours with his Hit Network co-cost Carrie Bickmore after he made major lifestyle changes for her. On Sunday, the 40-year-old comedian took to Instagram to announce he quit vaping and plans to lose 10kgs ahead of The Big Five Marathon in South Africa for Bickmore's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity on June 14. Little joked he ran 13.3 km but not quickly because he was a 'doughy boy" as he prepared for the feat in his home city of Melbourne. 'We are seven weeks out from The Big Five Marathon in South Africa. I just ran 13.3 km. Not quick because I am a doughy boy,' the radio star said in a video. 'I weighed myself this week. I weigh 86kg, which might not sound like that much, but the only time I ran a marathon, I weighed 70kg. So I am 16kg over my previous running weight. 'I'm trying the best I can. I don't think I'm going to be breaking any PBs (personal best), but I've quit vaping for the 42nd time this week. I did three runs. A couple sessions in the gym.' In the caption, Little said he was doing his best to raise money for Bickmore's cause and encouraged his 300,000 followers to donate. 'I plan to lose at least 10kgs and work my ass off for the next 7 weeks, anyone who wants to get involved is more than welcome,' he said. Bickmore encouraged her co-star in the comments, which ignited his banter-fuelled response. 'Yes, Tommy!!!!! Yes!!!! You got this,' she said 'You're stoned again, aren't you?' Little said with a love heart emoji. The co-stars have fanned romance rumours since Bickmore split from her second husband, Chris Walker, in January 2023. The pair were together for more than a decade and share two daughters, Evie and Adelaide. Carrie also has a son Oliver from her first relationship with Greg Lange, who died of brain cancer in 2010. She and Little's infamous flirty on-air rapport gained attention, and the speculation they are an item hasn't relented. Little addressed the gossip directly at The Roast of Carrie Bickmore during the Melbourne Comedy Festival in March. "There have been romance rumours about Carrie and I, but unfortunately, because Carrie is in my age bracket (my Tinder age bracket is legal to dead), but I'm not in Carrie's age bracket," he said. "She only likes much older, powerful men." He also playfully swiped at her beauty, saying, "Carrie looks better and better, and if you want to know what's her secret—cosmetic surgery." Little, who split from ex-girlfriend Natalie Kyriacou in 2021, recently doubled down on his affection for Bickmore. "She's one of my best mates," he told TV Weekly. "My co-host is brilliant…She's so good at what she does," he said. Bickmore returned serve at Little's I'm Not Proud show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival earlier this month The veteran presenter took to Instagram Stories to share a photo of her co-star mid-performance and wrote "5-star review" with a hand clapping and star emoji.
