No. 7 Baylor's comeback bid falls short in Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinal

KANSAS CITY, MO (FOX 44) — Baylor Men's Basketball battled to pull within one possession with V.J. Edgecombe even getting a chance to win it at the buzzer but his potential game-winning three was too strong as Texas Tech escaped with a 76-74 win in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinal on Thursday night. Led by Norchad Omier's game-high 29 points, Baylor rallied from as much as a 15-point second-half deficit to cut the deficit to single digits and stay within striking distance down the stretch. The Bears didn't allow a field goal for the final 7:26 of the second half, holding Texas Tech to 0-10 shooting during that stretch. A clutch three by Jayden Nunn cut the Red Raider lead down to two before Texas Tech extended it back to four. Rob Wright III brought the deficit back to two on a lay in with five seconds remaining, forcing Tech to ice it from the free throw line. However, Texas Tech's Christian Anderson missed both of his two shots which gave Baylor a chance. Down two with no timeouts, V.J. Edgecombe raced up the court, throwing up a one-legged three-point runner that hit too strong off the glass and fell off the mark to end Baylor's time in Kansas City. Bears tame Tang-led Cats to advance in Big 12 Tournament

KANSAS CITY, MO (FOX 44) — For the sixth-straight season the Bears are moving on to the Big 12 tournament quarterfinal after taking down Kansas State, 70-56 in the second round. Jayden Nunn turned in a classic performance with the senior stepping up his play during postseason play. Nunn dropped 18 points off the bench for the Bears, his most points in a game since Baylor's win over Abilene Christian in December. V.J. Edgecombe put on a show for those in attendance, showing why the Big 12 named him freshman of the year this season. Edgecombe led Baylor with 19 points on the night and 10 rebounds, just his second double-double of the season. However, Norchad Omier continued to rack up stats like he has all season, recording his 20th double-double of the season to break the Baylor program record for most in one season. He finished the game with 12 points and 14 boards on 6-14 shooting. The Bears advance to another showdown with one of Scott Drew's assistants in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinal against Grant McCasland's No. 2 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Thursday, March 13th at 6:00 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
