UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley was the primary target for the vacant Los Angeles Lakers coaching job last offseason. After giving it serious thought, he ultimately declined a six-year, $70 million contract to stay in Storrs.

He admitted the decision wasn't easy, and it came down to the last minute.
"It was a gut-wrenching decision for me," Hurley said. "Sunday night, going into Monday, where I kind of had a deadline in my mind, I was torn and I did not know really what I was going to do until I went to bed."
Hurley is now entering his eighth season at UConn, and there are rumors about him becoming the next head coach of the New York Knicks. The Knicks were recently eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals and fired their head coach, Tom Thibodeau, on Tuesday.

Hurley was asked about his interest in the Knicks job and was very direct in his answer, as shared via Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant.

"Not another summer of that," Hurley said.
The 52-year-old has made Storrs his home. He admitted that family was a major factor in his decision to decline the Lakers job in 2024.
"To leave a place that you feel the way we do and the family connection with my wife, my sons, my mother-in-law, my father," Hurley stated. "...I know how much it means to my dad to go to the Big East tournament and come to 10 UConn games a year at home."
In seven seasons at UConn, Hurley has won two national championships and made five NCAA Tournaments.
