The Scottish 'fairytale' castle you can stay in for less than a London hotel
The sprawling estate features a swimming pool and a beachside barbecue area. A Scottish castle is currently available to book for a cheaper price per person than an average London hotel. The castle has been described as a "fairytale escape". Many people in Scotland and beyond have long dreamed of staying in a luxury castle. While it may seem a goal that is out of reach, a castle stay can actually be affordable so long as you don't go it alone. Luxury holiday rental company Big House Experience has shared exactly how much it costs to stay in various castles. One that is located in Fife was found to cost just £100 per person per night, which is cheaper than the average £158 cost per night of a London hotel. Carron Castle is situated in north east Fife, overlooking the Firth of Tay. It is a Scottish Baronial-style estate that sleeps up to 30 guests. A three-night stay at Carron Castle is priced at £9,000. With 30 guests, this equates to £300 per person—or £100 per person per night. The grand castle combines "traditional grandeur with warm hospitality" according to its listing on Big House Experience. It features everything from sweeping staircases and crystal chandeliers to four-poster beds. There are 17 bedrooms in total within Carron Castle, including various king and super-king beds. The estate also features 13 bathrooms, featuring both luxury en-suites and family bathrooms with bathrobes. The historic ancestral home also includes a luxurious drawing room, a fully stocked library, and a sitting room for both formal and informal gatherings. It also features a cinema room, a billiards table, and two grand pianos and an organ. Outside, the estate is home to a swimming pool where visitors can take a dip and cool off. There is also an idyllic walled garden, and even a tennis court. Meanwhile, the 1,500-acre estate extends down to the Tay estuary. Here, there is a hidden fire pit spot ideally placed for waterside barbecues. Another highlight of the estate is the opportunity to spot wildlife. Red squirrels can be found within its woodland, while otters and even seals can be spotted along the shore. According to Big House Experience, Carron Castle is also a great destination for golf lovers. There are various high-quality golfers in the surrounding area, one of which is the renowned St Andrews Old Course. Dundee, Perth, and Edinburgh are also within easy reach of the castle. All offer various culture, shopping, and culinary opportunities.
