Will Morgan Wallen & Tate McRae Be Able to Hold at No. 1 on the Hot 100?

The Contenders is a midweek column that looks at artists aiming for the top of the Billboard charts, and the strategies behind their efforts. This week, for the upcoming Billboard Hot 100 dated June 7, we look at the chances of Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae's star-powered duet to continue its reign on the chart. Morgan Wallen feat. Tate McRae, 'What I Want' (Mercury/Big Loud/Republic): The combined star power of country superpower Morgan Wallen and rising pop phenom Tate McRae helped boost 'What I Want' to being not just the highest-ranking of Wallen's record-breaking 37 tracks on the Hot 100 last week, but the No. 1 song period – Wallen's fourth and McRae's first. The debut came on the back of 31.2 million official streams, according to Luminate, allowing it to bow atop the Streaming Songs chart and making up for its relative lack of radio presence as a new song. More from Billboard The Amity Affliction Cover Turnstile's 'Holiday' for 'Like a Version' Mariah Carey Celebrates 20 Years of 'The Emancipation of Mimi': Stream It Now Miley Cyrus' New Album 'Something Beautiful' This Way Comes: Stream It Now That streaming presence should still be very pronounced in its second week, as the song continues to reign on the Spotify Daily Top Songs USA chart and the Apple Music real-time chart. And the song is already starting to make a radio impact: After debuting at Nos. 32 and 38 on Adult Pop Airplay and Pop Airplay, respectively, on this week's charts (dated May 31), it's pushing toward the top 25 on both. (On Country Airplay, it debuted at No. 55 this week but looks likely to fall off next week – granted it's being promoted so far only to pop and adult formats.) If the song can hold for a second week, it will become the first multi-week Hot 100 No. 1 from I'm the Problem, pulling past the one-week No. 1 'Love Somebody,' which topped the chart last November. (It would still have another 14 weeks to go to tie the longest-reigning single from prior album One Thing at a Time, the 16-week No. 1 'Last Night' in 2023.) Alex Warren, 'Ordinary' (Atlantic): If not for Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem album debut, we might be talking about Alex Warren celebrating his first Hot 100 No. 1 single this week. After multiple frames of being at stuck at No. 2 behind Kendrick Lamar and SZA's 'Luther,' 'Ordinary' finally moves ahead of that 13-week No. 1 – but still only ranks at No. 4 on this week's chart, after falling behind three tracks from I'm the Problem. Nevertheless, 'Ordinary' should remain a strong contender for the top spot. It still ranks towards the top of the major streaming charts, and after reaching the Radio Songs top 10 this week, the song is now aiming for the top five; it's up 16% in audience May 23-26 over the previous building week. It's also challenging for No. 1 next week on Adult Pop Airplay, and could come for the crown on Pop Airplay not long after. Meanwhile, Warren has a new song out in the Jelly Roll collab 'Bloodline,' which should also be headed for a strong Hot 100 debut. But as shown with the success of recent artists like Teddy Swims and Benson Boone, having simultaneous follow-up hits can be more helpful than harmful to the original hits these days, so 'Bloodline' doing well might boost 'Ordinary' in its pursuit of the top spot. Morgan Wallen, 'Just in Case' and 'I'm the Problem' (Mercury/Big Loud/Republic): Morgan Wallen will still be seeing an awful lot of himself in the rearview mirror, as his solo songs that rank at No. 2 and 3 on the Hot 100 this week — 'Just in Case' and 'I'm the Problem,' respectively – should remain big factors on the chart next week as well. Though the two songs rank behind 'What I Want' on DSPs, they still have the head start on radio: 'Just in Case' continues climbing Country Airplay, though it could be still outside the top 10 next week, after rising to a new No. 13 high this week. Meanwhile, 'I'm the Problem' has ruled Country Airplay for six weeks already, and could be on pace for a seventh week at No. 1. If one of these other I'm the Problem tracks is able to pass 'What I Want' on next week's Hot 100, Wallen would replace himself on top for the first time in his career – becoming the first artist to do so since… Kendrick Lamar just a couple months ago, after a Super Bowl-rebounded 'Not Like Us' gave way to 'Luther' and its months-long reign. Morgan Wallen's ‘I'm the Problem' Breaks Streaming Records on Spotify, Amazon Music & Apple Music in First Day

Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem is off to a blockbuster start. The country superstar's fourth studio album, released Friday (May 16) through Big Loud/Mercury, is already breaking streaming records on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music. Later in the day, Amazon Music revealed that I'm the Problem had also broken the record for most streamed country record in its first day. 'Morgan Wallen just made country history—again,' Spotify posted on X. Amazon Music celebrated the achievement in a post shared to its Instagram Story. Billboard learned on Saturday afternoon that Wallen's I'm the Problem has also broken the record for biggest country album of 2025 by first-day streams. This isn't unfamiliar territory for Wallen. In 2023, his 36-track album One Thing at a Time became Spotify's most-streamed country album in a single day by a male artist. That project went on to dominate the Billboard 200 for 19 nonconsecutive weeks, setting a new record for the most weeks at No. 1 for a country album. It also ended 2023 as the No. 1 year-end Billboard 200 album and Luminate's year-end top album. Wallen's 2021 release, Dangerous: The Double Album, also topped the Billboard 200 for 10 weeks. I'm the Problem features high-profile collaborations with Tate McRae ('What I Want'), Eric Church ('Number 3 and Number 7'), HARDY ('Come Back as a Redneck'), ERNEST ('The Dealer') and Post Malone ('I Ain't Comin' Back'). Wallen co-wrote 22 songs on the project and had already released several tracks ahead of the full album, including the Billboard Hot 100-debuting 'Love Somebody,' the Hot Country Songs chart-topping title track 'I'm the Problem,' along with others like 'Just in Case,' 'I Ain't Comin' Back' and 'Lies Lies Lies.' I'm the Problem dropped the same day Wallen launched his Sand in My Boots festival in Gulf Shores, Ala. The three-day event boasts a diverse lineup featuring Brooks & Dunn, HARDY, Riley Green, Three 6 Mafia, Wiz Khalifa, Ella Langley, Treaty Oak Revival and Wallen himself. Morgan Wallen and Post Malone Team Up on ‘I Ain't Comin' Back'

Morgan Wallen and Post Malone have joined forces for 'I Ain't Comin' Back.' The song is the pair's second collaboration after last year's hit single 'I Had Some Help,' and will appear on Wallen's forthcoming album I'm the Problem, out May 16 via Big Loud/Mercury. Mid-tempo country number 'I Ain't Comin' Back' sees Wallen and Malone trading verses as they reflect on being a rambler. 'Now I'm walkin' on this water, mixed with Johnnie Walker Black,' Wallen croons over the chorus. 'There's a lot of reasons I ain't Jesus/ But the main one is that I ain't comin' back.' The pair announced the new single on Tuesday via Instagram, posting a photo of themselves together with the title and release date. Wallen also shared the 37-song track list for I'm the Problem, which includes features by Tate McRae, Eric Church, and Ernest. Last year, Wallen and Malone ruled country radio and the pop charts last year with 'I Had Some Help,' which topped the Hot 100 for six weeks. The song, which appeared on Malone's F-1 Trillion album, his first full-album foray into country music, went on to be nominated for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the Grammy Awards. In support of his fourth album, Wallen will hit the road for his I'm the Problem tour across North America and will kick things off in Houston, Texas, at NRG Stadium with Corey Kent and Koe Wetzel. Other special guests planned for the stadium run include Brooks & Dunn, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Gavin Adcock, Ella Langley, and Anne Wilson. 'As I've been working on new music, it has inspired me to get back on the road and share these new songs with each of you on the I'm The Problem Tour,' said Wallen in a previous statement. 'See y'all there.' Malone is a headliner at this year's Coachella, and the new song's release leaves high potential for Wallen to join him onstage for the festival's second weekend. Craig Wiseman honored with Mississippi Country Music Trail marker

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Craig Wiseman, a GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter, was honored with a Mississippi Country Music Trail Marker and a series of tributes recognizing his musical legacy and enduring connection to his hometown. On March 27, the Hattiesburg native was recognized during a special ceremony at Midtown Green Park, where a newly unveiled marker now stands as part of the Mississippi Country Music Trail. The marker features a concrete inlay with an iron replica of Wiseman's Big Loud logo—a nod to the Nashville-based music company he co-founded. It is one of more than 40 markers along the statewide trail. Hattiesburg Zoo accredited by Association of Zoos and Aquariums 'Mississippi is blessed to have so many remarkable musicians and songwriters who have helped make Mississippi the birthplace of America's music,' said Visit Mississippi Director Rochelle Hicks. 'As a part of the larger Mississippi story, adding Craig's marker to the Mississippi Country Music Trail is an important milestone in recognizing those who have made Mississippi instrumental to American and popular music.' Wiseman began his music career in Hattiesburg before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, where he became one of country music's most prolific and celebrated songwriters and a successful music business entrepreneur. Hundreds of artists have recorded Wiseman's songs, including Brooks & Dunn, Faith Hill, Tracy Lawrence, Patty Loveless, Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, Blake Shelton, Morgan Wallen, Kenny Chesney, and Tim McGraw. 'To be honored like this in the place where it all began—it's hard to put into words. Hattiesburg gave me the roots I needed to chase big dreams, and I'll always carry this city with me. This moment, this marker, this bandshell—it all means the world,' said Wiseman. The Mississippi Country Music Trail, administered by Visit Mississippi, commemorates the venues, legends, and landmarks that have shaped Mississippi's significant impact on country music.
