Man faces charges after woman struck by vehicle in Cape Breton

A 41-year-old Cape Breton man is facing charges after a woman was struck by a vehicle this week in Portage, N.S. According to a news release, RCMP responded to a call of a vehicle-pedestrian collision around 7:45 a.m. on May 6. Police found a 30-year-old woman lying in a ditch with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital. The woman had been hit by a vehicle that police identified as a grey Dodge 3500 truck. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene. The driver turned himself in later that morning and was arrested in Big Pond, N.S. The man is scheduled to appear in Sydney provincial court on Aug. 7 to face charges of aggravated assault and failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm.

RCMP investigate vehicle-pedestrian collision in Cape Breton

An RCMP vehicle is seen in this file photo. (CTV News Regina) RCMP Northeast Traffic Services is investigating a vehicle pedestrian collision in Portage, N.S. RCMP, fire services and EHS responded to a collision report near the 3000 block of Kings Road on Tuesday at approximately 7:45 a.m., said a police news release. A 30-year-old woman who sustained life-threatening injuries was found in the ditch at the scene. She was transported to hospital by EHS. The driver, a 41-year-old man, faces charges of failure to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm and aggravated assault after being arrested at a home in Big Pond, said the release. He's scheduled to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on August 7, 2025. Police said he fled the scene of the accident in his gray, Dodge 3500 before turning himself in to police later in the morning. Telstra's BigPond email service has been hit by a major outage, leaving thousands of Australians unable to access their inboxes for more than 24 hours. The issues first emerged on Monday afternoon, with users flooding social media and outage-tracking websites like Downdetector to report problems. 'We've picked up an issue affecting some customers trying to access their BigPond/Telstra Mail via the web,' Telstra said. 'Our team's on it, and we hope to have you back in your inbox soon. Using an app to access your mailbox (Outlook) may help in the meantime.' One Aussie business owner said the outage had left him in limbo and unable to send invoices. 'I rang them, I was on hold for over an hour and thirty minutes to get through to somebody and then they just said to me - oh sorry we haven't updated google to let you people know it's been down but we're working on it. 'That's all I got out of them that was it. And it's still not working this morning.' Phillip said he had been unable to work as uaual as a result of been heavily impacted. 'I couldn't send invoices, nothing,' he lamented. 'I'm in a jam, I'm stuck.'
