‘Bows late push falls short against UC Irvine in Big West Conference Tournament
Hawaii baseball took to the diamond on Thursday against 1st seed UC Irvine in the 1st round of the double elimination bracket for the Big West Conference Tournament.
The Rainbow Warriors came into the day 0-3 against UC Irvine on the season but trying to flip the script on Thursday.
But the Anteaters started the game off on the right note as the 'Bows allowed 3 runs in the 1st inning.
Hawaii in the 2nd inning added 2 runs from 2 RBI hits. But in the bottom of the inning, UCI scored another 3 to take a 6-2 lead.
From the 3rd through the 6th inning, neither team managed to score a run as it was a defensive showing as UH held the Anteaters hitless through that stretch.
In the top of the 7th with 2 runners on, Hawaii's Ben Zeigler-Namoa delivered.
Zeigler-Namoa crushed a ball to centerfield for a 3 run homerun to pull the 'Bows within just 1 run.
Hawaii allowed a run in the bottom of the 8th inning, and was unable to make it up. The 'Bows fall to UC Irvine 7 to 5.
The Rainbow Warriors finish with 11 hits at the plate. But the 'Bows on the mound allow 7 hits.
Hawaii heads to the elimination side of the bracket and will play on Friday at 4:00pm HT to keep their season alive.
The Rainbow Warriors will now need to win 4 straight games to win the Big West Conference Tournament Championship.
