Bigg Boss 19 major format change: Is the YouTuber-influencer era ending on Salman's Khan's reality show?
The upcoming season of
Bigg Boss
is set to witness a major transformation, as reports suggest a clear shift in its contestant lineup. According to multiple sources including Telly Reporter and Gossips TV, Bigg Boss 19 will not feature any social media influencers or YouTubers. Instead, the show will return to its traditional format, spotlighting established actors from television and Bollywood.
This marks a significant departure from the format seen in recent seasons, where digital content creators played a major role. Influencers such as Elvish Yadav, Abhishek Malhan (Fukra Insaan), Manisha Rani, and Rajat Dalal became key attractions in previous editions, drawing in younger viewers with their massive online presence and engaging gameplay. Despite their popularity, the makers have reportedly opted to revisit the show's original identity by focusing exclusively on celebrities from mainstream entertainment.
Casting Underway, No Official Contestant List Yet
Though no official list of contestants has been released so far, sources indicate that casting for Bigg Boss 19 is currently in progress. Prominent faces from the television and film fraternity are being approached. The aim is reportedly to restore the traditional star power that defined the earlier seasons, and possibly reconnect with the core audience who followed the show before the influencer era began.

Season 19 is also expected to be the lengthiest in the show's history. As per a report from Pinkvilla and updates by fan portal Bigg Boss Khabri, the season will run for approximately 5.5 to 6 months. If timelines remain on track, the show is anticipated to premiere around July 19 or July 30, 2025, and conclude in January 2026. This would mark a substantial extension compared to the usual three-month format.
Bigg Boss OTT Cancelled for 2025
In another notable update, the digital spin-off Bigg Boss OTT, which usually streams on JioCinema, has reportedly been cancelled for this year. The digital version had gained momentum with hosts like Karan Johar, Salman Khan, and Anil Kapoor in past seasons, with winners including Divya Agarwal, Elvish Yadav, and Sana Makbul. The decision to skip the OTT edition this year appears to be aimed at avoiding audience fatigue and ensuring complete focus on the television version.
Salman Khan Returns as Host for 16th Time
Salman Khan will once again return as the host of Bigg Boss 19, continuing his long-standing association with the franchise. Having first joined the series in 2010 with Season 4, Salman has become a key figure of the show, especially popular during the Weekend Ka Vaar episodes. According to Bigg Boss Khabri, he is expected to shoot the first promotional video by the end of June 2025.
While neither the channel nor the production house has officially confirmed the new format or premiere date, fan speculation is already running high.
