Police launch crackdown on land, liquor mafias in East Champaran

Motihari: East Champaran police on Saturday launched action against 40 land and liquor mafias involved in organised crimes and illegal earnings violating the section 107 of the Bihar Narcotics and Organised Crime Prevention Act (BNSS). According to a survey conducted by intelligence, police, and other agencies, they acquired properties illegally and created an atmosphere of fear in this district. SP Swarn Prabhat said, "We are first focusing on those land mafias who grabbed properties on forged documents and captured govt and private lands near towns and bazaars. These criminals are already accused of dozens of land grabbing and threatening cases in the district. They occupied lands of mostly poor and gentle persons with the nexus of circle officers of revenue department. Some of them earned crores of rupees overnight and are running black money rackets. " Prabhat said the police have started the process of seizing the properties of these criminals with the held of courts so that their illegal empire can be demolished from the root. Properties worth crores earned by them will be confiscated soon," the SP said in a press release. According to police, some of the identified land mafias of Motihari town and Areraj, Kesariya, are involved in criminal activities like extorting money, creating an atmosphere of fear, and destabilising the peace in the region. A special team under the guidance of the SP has collected the details of the entire properties of these 40 criminals. From farmhouses, SUVs, bank accounts, and gold and silver will now be seized, police said.
