The oldest among them, estimated to be around 500 years old, is a banyan tree located in southern Umga panchayat of Madanpur block in Aurangabad district.
These trees were identified as part of a major initiative by the board to preserve the state's natural heritage by recognising and protecting trees of significant age and ecological value.
The board has recently developed and circulated detailed guidelines for the identification of heritage trees, which were sent to district magistrates and forest division officers across Bihar, according to a statement issued by the department on Monday.
According to the official statement, "The selection criteria of the board include the tree's age (spanning more than three generations), mythological or historical significance, unique characteristics, endangered status and scientific research value."
