KSS announces modified Roman as official script for Kokborok
Agartala: The Kokborok Sahitya Sabha (KSS) — the apex literary body of Kokborok (dialect spoken by tribals of Tripura) authors, thinkers and poets — announced a modified 'Roman script' as the official script for the language, further escalating the ongoing script controversy.
Bikashrai Debbarma, the newly elected chairman of the advisory committee of KSS, said the decision of the Roman script was taken in the 53rd annual conference of the body held on Sunday here. "After consultation during the conference, we have passed five major resolutions and most significant resolution is related to the script issue," he said.
A debate over the script selection has been finally resolved as the experts have decided that the modified version of the Roman script will from now on be the official Kokborok script.
"We have made some modifications in the script for the linguistic needs of our mother tongue. It doesn't look exactly like the Roman script, which is globally in use as the written form of many languages," Debbarma said.
